Well started on the GMC Syclone tow truck for my funny car and trailer.

http://hometown.aol.co.uk/Lotusmark2/DSCN0382.JPG

I am going for a bright red vinyl and grey leather interior (should have pictures tomorrow) and Nissan Red 526 for the body work.

Added the arch extensions and will smooth tomorrow when dry.

Its the Revell kit.
I am looking at smoothing out and fitting ground effects at the rear, keeping it quite standard as I dont want to detract from the car it will be towing.
Specs on the pickup are:-
1/4 mile in 13 seconds at 103 MPH
4.3 Liter 285hp V6

Nothing compared to what it will be towing :naughty:

The Drag car is next to be built but as I have not modeled for a while, I thought I would get my hand back in with the tow car.
Thanks for the feedback ol'dude

Molded? If you need to mold the body, why not just modify the 66 olds cutlass 442 to fit your needs?

Besides, SR5, Monogram did a kit of the Hurst Hairy Olds way back in the 60's that's been reissued many times over the years.

Most recently, it was reissued with a newly printed decal sheet as a limited edition, complete with a pre-painted resin figure of Miss Hurst Shifter herself; Linda Vaughn.

Thats a cool tow vehicle mate.Nice to see one of these hotties getting built. The Syclone was a ball tearer and still one of the quickest US production vehicles built.

Nice work with the putty. Looks very nice. The truck seems like it's going to be great, but I think what we all want to see is the twin engine drag car. Keep us posted.

Can ya snap a pic of the drivetrain on the instructions????

lotusmark2
03-23-2004, 12:14 AM
sure, here you go.
It is a quite basic drive train that connects direct to each engine on the kit. Not the most detailed of kits but will look ok once I add a few bits and bobs.

The real thing didnt have much more though

that's sick!! Just imagine if it had to modern day pro mod engines of over 1200whp per motor! That thing must be a blast to drive. How did they do the transmissions and stuff? Gona have to research that beast.

That's nice, but the syclone, aswell as the 454SS should be black, but that's MO. I like how the body just flows into the flares.

lotusmark2
03-28-2004, 11:27 AM
yeah I know if I go for the traditional it should be black but hey  It going to be a bit different with the arches so I thought why not. Cheers for the comment on the arches, took a bit of work to get them that smooth.

So, Im assuming that the trailer will match the truck? Not widebody, heh heh, but in paint.

lotusmark2
03-28-2004, 01:19 PM
yep thats the plan, the tool chest and mud guards will match. The sides may stay clear or may go red, not sure yet.

Hairy used a pair of blown injected 425ci Oldsmobile V8's putting out around 800hp each, and the driveline was just a pair of 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado transaxles strengthened with a bunch of Hurst components. Considering it was trying to funnel all its power down to 10.5inch wide M&H Racemasters, it was a total handful. Hence its name; "Hurst Hairy Olds".

Here's a couple of pics of Hairy in action.

this is going to be a bad ass pulling an even bigger badass. I love the cyclone and the typhoon, there is one around my neighborhood but the dude that owns it takes awful care of it. I almost bought i a few years ago until i got in and cranked it up, it's a shiny turd on wheels.

I'm a big fan of the GMC turbo twins. My cousin Barry's (owner and designer of the award winning custom 1959 Buick "Lo Sabre) daily driver is a Typhoon that he had tuned by a certain Mr. John from Decatur, Indiana. ;)

this truck is powerful and all, but how about a striaght exhaust? you gotta realize the weight of the hurst plus the trailer, and well, its alot!
