Should I shave my wheel well?

OK so I lowered my ride and now my tires rub. I am going to put some new wider tires on and I fear it will rub even more, I figure I need to shave my wheel wells but would like to know if this is not a good idea and if not what is the fix for this? The tires I am going to be running are 17X5, if anyone has a walk through it would be appreciated.

here ya go (http://www.andrews.edu/~johnsonm/howto/rollfender.html) looks a bit scary but i've heard its just as good as any bodyshop as long as you take your time. Its shown on teggy but will work with anything. Hope it helps ya!

OK, that does look scary, my only concern would be with breaking my fender, has anyone done this on a 6th gen and had success?
