Pinging After Hypertech Install

I programed my computer with a Hypertech Programmer this week. I run Chevron Super for gas, but the motor (8.1) still pings. It pings in both the low octane and high octane setting in the hypertech.

Any Ideas of what I can do to the motor (tune-upwise maybe) to stop the pinging?

Thanks!

Mine did this after I first installed it, but then I switched to Supereme (93 octane) and haven't reually had anymore problems. It will slightly ping under a load while in overdirve.(climbing a slight grade..etc.)

I was thinking mine would stop pinging too after I put Supreme gas in it, but it still pings with Supreme. Anyone else have any ideas of how to stop the pinging? It does it with a cold engine too.
Thanks

Well the pinging never stopped. Even with 3 cans of Octane Boost in my tank of Super, and I even ran the lower octane setting in the programmer. I just switched back to Factory settings and the truck is much faster, because everytime it pinged before, it hesitated.
Any ideas why it would ping that much? Hypertech swears its my truck's problem.

I'm still not sure. I'm selling my Hypertech as soon as I can and getting a Nelson tune.

Probably a good idea... for now... im just using my hypertech to adjust my rev limiter and tire height... its doing no engine programming though... oh well... it would have been 300 to get the tire height fixed at a speedo shop so not a HUGE deal i guess... any other ideas on how to stop the pinging would be cool... thanks!

I ahve had a lot of success clearing poor performance due to clogged or dirty injectors using this product. You may want to igve it a shot and see if it helps. It's not an octane booster but a fuel system cleaner... I'm not running a hypertech right now but have in the past...

I have also heard that a lean fuel condition could cause pinging, so at the next oil change, I'm also changing my fuel filter again. Maybe that'll fix it until I can sell it. If you know anyone that has a 99 that needs a hypertech, let me know.

I'll let you know. I have changed my fuel filter recently, but I'll do it again.. along with a strong fuel injecter cleaner. I dont think the plugs would cause the pinging... its mostly a lean thing I think. Hypertech thinks its because of my Airaid air intake giving the motor more air and causeing it to lean out. I think thats BS because just an air intake wont cause it to go THAT lean will it?

I don't think so, I have an FIPK and before my head gakets blew, it didn't ping hardley at all.... I'm changing my filter 2morrow and I'll let you know how it worked.

I just changed my oil and while I was under the truck, changed my fuel filter. It really did make a difference in the pinging..I never knew gas was so dirty, I had just changed the filter not long ago. Anyhow, I guess mine was just a lean condition b/c I still have my Hypertech installed, but it barely pings at all...just barely under a slight load.

hypertech will do that that how it increases your horse power by advancing your timing!

You know what's weird? I bought Jayson's hypertech for my 4.8....and with the higher octane setting, I get no pinging...even running on regular unleaded! :screwy: I did get a performance increase so I know it is programmed properly.

Sounds like this pinging thing can vary from vehicle to vehicle. My truck has over 50k miles and is a 99....so it isn't brand new either. Maybe the different engines are more susceptible to too much timing?

I think my ping problem was my engine...my new one runs SOOOO much better!
