i own a 95 monte carlo z34. ever since i bought it last yr. i have had starting problems. i thought it might be a fuse, checked them all and there fine. i noticed when i pluged in the 2 ingnition fuses back in the fuse block under the hood, the securty light lit up for a min then went out. now my car has the chip in the key also. i thought the securty system is failing some how. might it be the tumbler in the colum? if so i read here it could be bypassed, by buying a resister, and spliceing in to a fat orange wire under the steering column, to by pass the securty system. is it that easy? if the person who posted the ad with the same problems im haveing could give me more detail instructions on doing this my self, becouse id rather fix it than take it to a dealer and spend big bucks i dont have. id be very much appreciated. thank you. ps.i think this forum is very helpful.

try buying a new key first because if you cut the wrong wire or somthing you won't start at all

I have a 97 Monte Carlo Z34 with 94,000 miles on it. I bought it because it gets better gas mileage than my 98 S-10 4.3 L. 26 mpg over 16 mpg. (I've checked both by calculating fuel used to miles traveled) However, I've had a starting problem that occurred recently after I bought it. At first when I turned the key on sometimes the lights would dim and the car wouldn't start. I fixed this by replacing the battery. But there is still a starting issue. Sometimes I will try starting the car and it will start but then starts shuddering as if it's not getting enough fuel. I can press on the gas pedal and the rpm's do not move. It will shudder for a few minutes and then die. Recently, it happened and I turned on the AC and then it evened out and registered me pressing on the gas pedal. I tried hooking a SNAP-On diagnostic tool to it and it doesn't register any readings from the MAF sensor. The readings are all 0. I replaced the MAF and still no readings. I checked the voltage on all of the wires going to the plug in for the MAF and they register similar readings to a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1L. I do have a K&N air filter and it doesn't seem to be overly oiled (from recharging) because I have heard that oil can cause a fluctuation in the MAF reading. There is no check engine light coming either. It will come on if I unplug the MAF wire. Also, this doesn't happen when I first start the car, it only happens when I've driven the car for a while and then turn it off and try and restart it. Could this be a computer timing issue or a clogged fuel filter? I'm not sure what else to try. Please help!

So the car cranks ok, but the idle is rough when you try to start it warm, but it is ok when cold?

There are no codes?

Check for fuel in the vac line to the fuel pressure regulator....check for a vac leak.....

Will it start and run better if you slightly depress the accel pedal?

It starts right up if it's been sitting for three to four hours. If I turn it off and let it sit for an hour or less it tends to start then shudder like it's not getting enough fuel. No there aren't any codes. I checked for a vacuum leak. No luck there. It does run better when I press the accel pedal, sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't register me pressing the accelerator at all. There is no revving of the engine or higher rpm's. It just shudders until it cuts off.
