94 Escort Gt Speed cable install

94 escort Gt - does anyone know how to re install the speedometer cable without tearing out the dash... this has to be the worst design in history for even to change out a bulb ya gotta spend an hour removing the damn thing :banghead:..... :banghead:

The best approach without removing the dash is to get a kid with tiny little arms to get in there and weave his arm up around and grab hold of the back of the speedo.
Think I'm joking?
Might help to take a second to remove the driver seat... I think it just has 4 nuts holding it from under the car. That'll give a little more room to crawl up in there and get an arm in the right position.
