I have a 88 Si with about 190,000 miles on it. I am looking to put a new engine in it and was wondering what the best options/possibilities are. Should I try to find a b20a5 or try to get a newer engine? I don't know what types of engines would swap easily. I want to make the car relialbe. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's you're realistic answer: The easiest thing to put into your car would be the same engine.
Now here's your whoa-wouldn't-that-be-kickass answer: You *can* put the infamous h22a into your car. I imagine it's not a simple bolt in swap, but it IS doable.
Here's an incredibly detailed description of that: http://www.preludepower.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15251

yes, definately one hell-uva swap. This is also a good way to confuse the hell out of that guy in the mustang who has a girlfriend with the same car but with a lot less powerful of a motor so he knows he can beat you but gets laughed at by his girlfriend (I could write a movie with that scenario). Another less kick-ass idea that is a little easier on the wallet and maintenance would be another B-motor. Your simple, direct bolt-in, non-vtec options are...
B20A
B21A
B18B or A
B20B or Z
These motors are very well built motors, except for the B20A and B21A motors when it comes to comparing their higher-revving VTEC brothers. You can usually find them with low mileage on any website. I know you can find them at Import Auto Salvage (I need to stop praising them!)
If you want to go VTEC, you will need the ECU and wiring harnesses swapped out for the matching engines...
B16A or B
B18C
Your "head-turning" swaps that require alot or ALOT of mods include...
Any H-series VTEC or non
Any F-series VTEC or non (kinda pointless unless it is a F20C or B)
The almighty godlike C30A1 or C32, DOHC VTEC 24 valve NSX motor with 300 HP would be just f***ing crazy, but has been done in a CRX once b4 by Mahdavi Motorsports.

www.prelude3g.com has info on the h22 swap. Let me know what you go with and how it turns out. Maybe I will try a swap after I run the miles up on my 88.
