could someone please tell me the difference between a 4-1 header or a 4-2-1 header? which one is better? this header would be planning on going on a 92 hatchback with an APEXI WS cat back system. thanks in advance.

4-1 header make more power at higher rpm's i wouldnt reccomend then if you have to shift before 7000rpm you also lose little torque at lower rpm's

pretty much where he pulled out 7k or higher its only usefull i would love to know.
4-1 is used on some cars factory Namely the ITR heck alot of guys with B motors swap on the ITR header for few ponies. most dnyo tests show there just as if not better then name brand
4-2-1 mid range and some upper
4-1 higher end power
thats just in genreal. on your D motor i would say go with a 4-2-1 a higher faster revving motor like b16a would see better use for 4-1s

I had chosen a 4-2-1 design for mine simply because the B16 lacks a lot of torque, so I was improving exhaust flow and some top-end improvement with minimal loss in mid-range torque.

The 4-1 design yields better top-end gains, but you will sacrifice some mid-range torque.

If I do an engine build-up in the future, I may opt for the 4-1 design since I will have improved torque to offset the mid-range loss with the 4-1 design.

hmm, im trying to make up my mind about this too, i have a 95 GSR, i want more around town torque so i think im gonna go with 4-2-1...any advice??

I would suggest the same thing I was going to buy for mine - a 4-2-1 one-piece header from DC Sports.

I think for the GSR you will be fine with a 4-1 it should still retain some good driving around town tq due to the dual runner intake manifold, and the extra displacement over the b16. I just feel that the 4-2-1 will not flow well in the higher rpm, compared to the 4-1, and the higher rpm is were the powerband is on a GSR. But that is just my :2cents:

There is more to header design then where and when the runners meet and merge. The length and diameter of the piping and collector also greatly effects performance. Nowadays, both 4-2-1's and 4-1's depending on design can yield exactly the same results, or vise versa of the standard thought. Which is 4-2-1 for more torque and 4-1 for more top end. Quite honestly the only way to tell is to compare dyno charts, but the best performing are AN-R, SMSP, and the JDM ITR 4-1.
