I hate the chrome look. if you do anything go carbon fiber

scottsee
03-19-2004, 12:06 AM
second that.. carbon fiber, darker lenses. NO CROME. unless your car and wheels are silver

GTPSPEED

I have those APC Euro Tail Lights for my 97 RS and the cheap plastic chrome-coated border started to fade with the sun. After a few months it it looked bad. To make things worse, water would get into the center piece when I washed the car along with the soap and you could see the water spots all over it. I eventually replaced the center piece with my oem piece and spray painted the boarders of the two side pieces white (to match the color of my car) and they look much better. Now it actually looks like part of the car and not a cheap ass faded look.

Yup, wish I knew that beffore I bought them. Actually, I wasn't the one who bought them, it was my dad. I'm still happy with the way they look now though and all it took was a little bit of white spray paint.

I would take some silicone and glue it up. It will keep the water from getting in (or a leaf which happen to my friend...dunno how). But they will fade, I believe the S.A.E and D.O.T approved altezza don't fade. They dont have many problems at all.

Actually, the water would one go through the hole left for the trunk key. What I eventually did was buy a cheap circular red reflector, it think it was for bicycles or something, and glue it in the opening. It did work, I just wasnt able to open my trunk from the outside and I couldnt find a way to remove the water stains, which is why I just took it off.

I see. Well you could use some clear silicone around that hole too. But dont use too much because it wont look good.

I kinda worded that last sentence wrong. What I took off was the entire clear center tail light piece and put the oem instead. The oem doesnt give me any problems, and neither do the clear side pieces.

But, the clear silicone is a good idea. Thanks for the help.

guess I should have read this one before posting on the other tailight question. yes, the silicone and epoxy idea is very good. You can take your stock centerpice and paint it to match your vehicle, and it gives it a nice custom look. just cover up the silver "eclipse" part with some masking tape and have at it. you can also do so with the aftermarket centerpice. which is a little easier than the oem one because it doesn't have anything written on it. but by all means, please avoid just putting the dumbass lookin double circle thinger on the middle. it's just so not cool. also you have to realize that the spraypainted centerpice is going to fade rediculously fast unless you use a really good paint. so don't do it too cheaply or you'll be redoing it every year. also try sanding the centerpice with a pice of 40 grit sandpaper or an equivelant. it will make the paint stick a lot better and keep it from running while it is drying. there's my 2 cents.

You just need a good can of spray paint. That shouldn't run you more than $10.

and to be honest,im a littled worryed about using spray paint cus a couple weeks ago i got a new gauge bezel, a chrome one and i tried to paint it blue(cuz like ash i have some blue in my interior)but must have messed it up cuz now in the sun i get a glare from the the paint and you can see how some bunched up and it looks like shit, like its to thick in some spots,so now i am gonna rip it out and have it painted

ashah000
03-24-2004, 04:29 PM
What kind of paint did you use? How many coats?

Not to be mean, but was this one of the first times you spray painted something?

Import2nr99
03-24-2004, 04:48 PM
Hate to break it to you, but unless you rip open your pretty new alteezas and get rid of the water, it's not gonna go away. and you'll have really bad condensation for weeks on end. and it will piss you off. might as well go ahead and crack the bad boys open and clean them out, then silicone them shut once they've dried. also with the paint, to keep it from getting uneven like that, try sanding it before spraying it. what happens is the paint will adhere to certain spots better than others, and cause a buildup.. making it look splotchy and like someone has been whiping blue boogers on your pod. sand it back down, and spray it again. no more than 3 well covered and thin coats. this will be plenty for an interior part.

Use Krylon spray paint, also you can use a clear on top of the blue.
Did you buy the tails off ebay?

GTPSPEED
03-24-2004, 05:47 PM
yeah,i got them off ebay, and i have not painted the taillights yet,but yeah ebay 50 buck and there in mint condition, but sanding it makes sense i never knew that, hey ash i wanted to ask you this,i've seen the pics of your car,i have the same blue on the doors that i did myself, but i didn't use anything to stick the material to my door so in the middle there is like a pocket of air,i didn't use anything cuz i wanted to be able to take it off if i choose,so my question is how did you do yours, cuz your interior doors look better than mine,ps,and those seat covers, where did you get those and how much, lol, and im not trying to copy your car ,i just like blue and am trying to put it in my interior,im getting a braid kit for my engine (blue) and the kit is like 60 bucks, but i bet it will look cool
