Anyone have a higher speeding ticket?

Back in 1993 I got a speeding ticket for 167mph in a 55mph zone.
I was driving home from Phoenix to San Fran. I had been up for 36 hrs when I noticed a car with a red light behind me around the Buttonwillow exit on I-5. At the time, the Feds has recinded the highway speed limit restrictions, but none of the states had decided what to do about it. So I-5 had dropped from 65 to 55 (now a 75). My Camaro's speedometer pegged at 85mph so I had no clue how fast I was really going. The CHP pulled up behind me, threw open the door with pistol drawn and yada yada yada. Once he realized we (my friend was in the car) weren't drug runners or armed he put his pistol back and talked normally with us for a little while. Turned out that a plane had originally tagged me, but had to turn back for fuel. The first interceptor had turned over the chase because he couldn't make the intercept from where he was. This guy had been tailing me for 18 minutes at a steady 167mph. He even noted that it was some of the best driving he had seen for the speed. Unfortunately, I can't take credit because I was essentially asleep at the wheel. After our discussion (about 30minutes) he decided to write up the ticket (my record at the time only showed 3 of an eventual 21 speeding tickets) for "Speeding in excess of 100mph over the posted limit". He also forced us to sleep there on the side of the road for 3hrs. He waited and woke us up when he felt our nap had been sufficient.
I know it sounds like BS, but I swear to high heaven that it is true. I did not have my license suspended or revoked (on scene that is). I was not jailed. My car was not impounded. Nothing but that ticket, which came to $1041 for the fine, and a mandatory court appearance. By the time my court date rolled around, my record had caught up with me. The judge could see all 21 tickets in the file, which was so thick I could see it from the pulpit I was standing at. He thumbed through it for a couple minutes without saying a word. Then looked directly at me, and asked "Please tell me you aren't going to try to claim Not Guilty to this?" I agreed, then we chatted a bit. He named the fine and that was it. Once the DMV posted all the tickets, of course my license was suspended twice and revoked in the span of three weeks. I guess this is what happens when you overload the California DMV with a rapid succession of tickets.
Anyone have something other than the seat of their pants or speedometer to verify what their record speed is? Problem being that we all know speedometers are somewhat inaccurate. Seat of the pants is VERY inaccurate.

Can't say I've gotten ticketed for speeds like that. How'd you get a Camaro to go twice the peg limit on the speedometer anyways?

A friend of mine has a ticket for 127 or 123 over the speed limit, 150 somethin in a 30 ... has it framed on his wall lol, he got it 6 or 7 years ago before I knew em. Don't remember what all he said he went through for it, I just remember I was glad that I wasn't him... I will try to get him to lend it to me so I can scan it and post a pic of it.

It was a bottom feeder baseline Camaro when purchased from GM. Therefore it came with a differential ratio of 2.56:1. It had basically no acceleration, but a top end to make you drool. We gave up trying to time it's 0-60 at 17 seconds and I still wasn't up to 60 yet. But once I got moving, it could FLY. As for mods, just basic stuff. Bigger carb, balanced blueprinted internals. 8:1 compression. NO exhaust (manifolds, that's it). :)

Well...I've just went up to 115 on a 55...but didn't get a ticket......because I was bleeding...(I meant ladies' problem...and it happened while I'm on the interstate. Therefore I was speeding like that. But wasn't realize until saw a cop just left the highway.

The fastest I've ever been pulled over( pulled over being hte operative words) at was 107 in a 55. THe cop was going the other way and my radar detector caught him too late. I slowed down like a dumbass and he caught up with me a few mins later. He said he clocked me at 83, which I knew was BS, so I wouldn't admit to it. I think he was a new cop, because he didn't seem to handle it well and was just trying to get me for anything. So he wrote me a ticket for not having a seat belt on(I only had the auto shoulder strap on at the time). So I got a cute little 20 dollar ticket for that. Anyway, there is a great book called "case dismissed" by jeff mulligan(if I remember correctly) great for getting speeding tickets thrownout. I highly recommend it. It's online, at www.beatmyspeedingticket.com

I got a speeding ticket for 80+ at least that is what the officer wrote on it. But from what I remember on that day is that I worked a graveyard shift and went to my dealer to pick up a Nose Mask/Bra that I had just purchased.
It was about 11:00 AM and my eyes where starting to give out on me. The car was about 2 months in my possesion (2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse) when I was curious about how the cruise control worked. And there is actually a stick that you can move around that is attached to the steering wheel in any direction and it would serve a function:
ACCEL
_____
::::::|=|CRUISE ON/OFF
_____
CRUISE
So I fiddled with it and pushed in the cruise control for the first time since I never really payed any attention to it.
The cruise light was on on my gauge cluster, but it did'nt maintain the speed and it gradually went down.
Now while I was doing this I was going south on the 405 in CA and was in the fast lane. There were cars in front of me and in the middle there were no cars. So I switch to the middle lane and there's clear road for at least 20 car lenghts.
I kept fiddling with the cruise control and by accident I simultaniously held accel on the cruise stick and put my foot on the pedal. The car went from 75 MPH to 105 MPH AT LEAST. The bad part is that since I really did'nt know how to turn off the cruise because it was the first time I ever used it every time I braked it would go back to the speed it was at before. But I turned it off.
Next thing I knew I saw blue lights on my rearview mirror. I pulled over immidiately and admitted to the officer that I was speeding. He was nice on me and let me go. The ticket he wrote was for $125 and I ended up taking online driving course to clear it off my record.
http://twtr.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p1001960reg.jpg
The next thing I remember was going on Ebay and searching for Cobra 9870 11 Band Radar Detector with Voice Alert. Now I have radar in my car and I know when the pigs are monitoring me. "Ka Alert... KA -== BEEP BEEP BEEP"
What is so cool about it is that it talks to you. The button on the right hand side is for City and Highway mode pressing it will talk "City X or City K or City XK" and for highway "Highway".
Of course I'm not a jackass at driving all the time at 100+ or so. But it helps getting to work on time as I weave through traffic.

What the fuck are you doing going 80 in a 25 zone. Were you going by a school as well?
If the car had been "dropped?" you could have handled it?
How about if you actually knew how to DRIVE!

YOU GUYS WONT BELIEVE THIS ONE.
I got a ticket for 77 in a 25 which isn't a big deal but what happen when I got it is. I was drunk which driving under the influence is idiotic but I was young and dumb. Anyway I drank 64 oz glass of OJ and Vodka at a party at my house had a few beers too. Needless to say I was Hammered. Anyway I decided to go pick up this chic named Kendra and try and get some action. So I go and get her and we are driving back to my house in my little crap truck when I start speeding to impress her.(YOUNG AND DUMB) I run a light at a major intersection doing about 70 into a housing area. I continue to accelerate I guess I was going 77 that is what the cops said latter anyway lo and behold I pass a cop sitting in a apartment parking lot. Well I thought I got a good enough jump on him so I tried to take a few quick turns and hide from him so I turn left real quick and then right and then right into a driveway real Quick. Turn my lights out and sit. I look over to the car in the right side of the drive way and its a COP CAR. I PULLED INTO A COPS DRIVE WAY. Anyway there is like 5 cop cars there in a Matter of a minute guns drawn tell me and Kendra to get out of the car. I don't know how they didn't get me for drunk driving but they checked the car for drugs gave me a ticket for 77 in 25 and let me go. The whole time the cop is talking to me I am breathing out of the side of my mouth because he was in my face yelling at me. God I am lucky I didn't kill myself or anybody else and didn't get a DUI.

Yeha that is a truck not to mention a Desil going that fast. We have done very little for performance we just added different rear end gear ratios, 2 extra override gears and a superchips performance upgrade. Oh yeah and after market exaust from a Ford Genisis 8970 tractor. She has no liesnece now for 2 more months

Maxim magazine did a review of the Y2K Turbine Superbike, the one from the movie Torque, in the Feb 2004 issue. In the article, the bike's designer said he got a letter from an owner saying he got busted doing 217 in a 55, and got fined $10K for it :banghead: , and $100 for noise.

Does anyone know of a spot where there is a 55mph zone in which one could actually get the bike going that fast if it really could?

Yes, I do know of 55mph spots on straight highways in PA that you could get it that fast providing it was a bike that could accelerate like that, I've hit 140 in my car and still had plenty of space and power, just didn't have the balls at that point in time. My car takes 2x as long to do 0-60 as a typical bike.
Just because it is a prop bike in a movie, doesn't mean anything. In the movie, all the stuff is made for the camera, the bikes aren't really suped up, they only go 70mph on the back of trailers, while filming and then the computers get to action and fix it up with editing. In real life, you can buy that bike, and you can hook it up, and you may be able to do 217mph, providing you have the balls and the space to do it.
...and don't even start bashing Maxim

138mph in a 55 in a 76 Porsche 911S burned the cops through the corners but they got me on video and came to my house and arrested me, I'm only 16 and it was my first time to get caught they had 2 more videos of me going the same speed on the same road but none of them you could see the license plate except for the last one, so now i am on probation and won't get my license back till i'm 18 i'm screwed.
If it ain't a :bs: I think you damn well deserved it. And not even 18 yet huh :eek7:?
Anyone doing above 100 in a highly populated area in a speed zone below 60 is just asking for trouble. Not only that, I see the same way how ricers and muscleheads put other driver's life in danger. Use your brain and not your dick, go to the backroads or tracks. There's more at stakes here than just speeding tickets.
And YES, even Jay Leno has that Y2K jet-turbined bike in black, and it is street legal.

A Camaro that takes 17 sec 0-60 can do 167? Come on. After 70 mph the wind resistance is HUGE, you'd need alot of power to do 167; and there are not many cars that can even DO 167. I think that cop was BS ing you about the speed.
As far as knowing how fast you're actually going, check the tachometer. See what it is at 60, then do some proportional math to see what you're doing when the speedo is pegged.
I've done 125 across the Arizona desert for an hour. No cops. Worst ticket got caught for was 82 in a 55.

Let's see.....I was pegged once for driving 73 in a 55(open country road out in the middle of nowhere), and 94 in a 70 on the freeway. These were both civil infractions in Michigan. The worst one I got was in North Carolina, I was clocked doing 70 in a 55. That was a misdemeanor offense, but I had a lawyer appear in my place and he had it argued down to improper equipment but the fine remained the same. Not to mention the lawyer's fees.

well I never really got a high ticket most I ever got was 87 in a 65, I was going a buck something and I saw the cop and started slowing down and thats what he clocked me at. But I did manage to get 3 tickets in one stop one for 57 in a 35, one for running a stop sign, and one for not wearing my seat belt that hurt..

Big, juicy, steaming pile of.......
haha, AMEN! Lemme throw in some destroying factors to this... Ok, I'm assuming you can't spell and by 'Dessil Excusion' you meant Diesel (as in the correct way to spell this type of fuel) Excursion (as in the FORD Excursion, A 4+Ton truck) "we just added different rear end gear ratios"--you mean you CHANGED (as in didn't bolt another part) the rear end RATIO (singular) On a ford excursion, the lowest stock gear you can get is a 3.73 (4.30 is the other option) "2 extra override gears" you mean over drive gears? Because you know, thats the EASIEST mod in the world to do. You just drop them down in the transmission fill and they take place themselves. You also must have the aero package too, cause a ford excursion def has low wind resistance and theres no way an automatic transmission would slip trying to push those speeds. And to mention that motor in it has a RED LINE of 3000RPM. Wait, oh yeah, the tires didn't blow out either, because all truck tires are rated for that speed.
Worse I've ever had was 92 in a 55, got my license suspended for 6 months.
Fastest i've heard someone going (that I knew) was 185 in my friends corvette. He races late models and did a motor swap into his '81 vette, the only way we knew he was going that fast is we had to do a calc on the driveline w/ wheels and what not (he had the motor up to 6800 rpm)
Fastest i've personally driven is 150 in my mazda, on I-95, a downhill part right before fredricksburg. Car had absolutely nothing left, backed off hit the brakes, and isn't that a sick feeling, when brakes do absolutely nothing. Don't speed anymore so no more speed runs!
In regards to who said their camaro was doing 167? My ass... you said the speedo only goes to 85? My friend has a Z28 and she told me "beat the living hell out of it, I don't care, I just want it back in one piece"... needless to say, no friggin way did that thing have enough power to hit 167.
He races late models and did a motor swap into his '81 vette, the only way we knew he was going that fast is we had to do a calc on the driveline w/ wheels and what not (he had the motor up to 6800 rpm)

it was a honda RC51 which has a top speed i believe of 190 something, he got the speed registered by an airplane which clocked him from line to line, did the math then calculated his speed, so the margin of error lies within the accuracy of the officer timing him. The helicopter relays the details to an officer on the ground. If the clocking officer was off by 1/2 a second, that would make for a difference of 30 miles an hour. Either way the guy was hauling ass...
A hayabusa motorcycle can do stock like 230 or something. It is really fast, and I would never go that fast. You just have to remember the power to weight ratio on those things, its absolutely retarded. 250 hp on a bike that weighs 380 lbs. +driver equals about 1 hp for every 2 lbs.

Actually stock Busa's have a speed govenor that kicks in at 187mph, along with most other crotch rockets.
A guy at DEI has a 242mph (legit & tested) turbo busa.

That's what fairings & a windscreen are for. Plus at those speeds you tuck & squeeze very tightly.

I havn't gotten a ticket for speeding yet but my cousin got one for 85 in a 65 at least thats what the cop wrote on the ticket, but he was going at least 95. we were comming back from camp and earlier he had gone like 115 in his stock 1.8T GTI.
My dad did 110 in a 03 RAV4 which shocked me it was between 105-110 and the engine didn't have a 1000 miles i told him it was stupid but o well. He got pulled over for 83 in a 65 but the cop just gave him a verbal warning.

Holy mother of god!! Please let me know when youll be traveling and where next time so I can make sure im not on that hiway. 160+ and you say you were nearly asleep? Good receipe for a quick and painless death for you, others may not be so lucky......

I was doing 180 kph (about 112 mph) in a 120 kph (75 mph) highway and I was photographed. I saw the flash, drove straight into the nearest hospital and complained about a pain in the chest. It worked in court...
Other time I was followed by an unmarked police car (I didn't know it was a police car, of course  ). I was doing about 110 when they flashed their lights and stopped me. In court, I said I thought the people in the car were following me to steal the jewels I had with me (I worked selling jewels at the time) and the judge let me free

Last summer I was in my 97 Nissan Sentra XE 5 Speed and I was doing 185 in a 15 zone in a supermarket parking lot.
A cop tried to pull me over but I shifted to reverse and hit a speed bump. My car backflipped over the cop car and landed behind him. The cop was all like, "Where did he go?!" At least that's what I assume he said. I proceeded to do 360 spins around him and he called for backup. About 35 cop cars showed up along with SWAT and Jessica Simpson. I told them "I'm just playin y'all", and they were so impressed by my sUpA 1337 skills that they said it was okay, and me and Jessica left to a motel.

In a recent interview, Jay Leno said he got pulled over on an L.A. freeway doing 75 mph in his 1911(?) Stanley steamer.
This car appeared in a recent episode of 'My Classic Car', and its pretty fast, for its time.
Leno thinks that would have been the highest speeding ticket ever achieved by a steam car...... except the cops let him go
Sheesh, celebrities can get away with anything.

Isn't the speed limit 70? Don't the cops have anything better to do than to pull people over for 5 mph over?
