Putting aside obvious differences, 2seats vs. 5, coupe vs. sports sedan, and 6spd vs. 5spd, which of the two is the best buy? Which one will retain it's value longer and be more reliable (repairs, SNOW,etc...). And also, of the two, which one will be cheaper to insure and maintain.

The Altezza may be better with insurance and maintainence... but you come into a Z forum and ask such a silly question? Which would we buy? C'mon guy...

First thing is first... there is no such thing as a SPORTS-SEDAN in the US of A... the IS is a glorified grocery-getter with a high-price tag with a not so impressive power range... the Z is a pure sports-car that is already a modern-classic! The power-range for the new Z is good... and the VQ35DE motor almost has limitless power potential! Get the or don't bother showing your face around here again! Have anice day...

I really like the Altezza. Over here in Germany we can even opt for the IS200. Sure they're a little under-powered, but it's no slower than a similarly equipped BMW 320. The SportCross is a nice looking car. And the driving position is great.

As for your question: I think in the North American market, both will have very good long term resale value. The IS 300 is more of a daily driver (as in all-season) car, whereas the Z is probably a bit out of place in 20cms of snow and minus 15 degree temperatures (not to say it can't be done). As for reliability, I don't think anyone can argue with Toyota's quality. But Nissan is pretty solid as well, so it's not much of an issue.

Nonetheless, we're comparing apples with oranges.

correction-nissan is more solid than toyota any day

as for your question, the is300 is basiclly a non-turbo, fat assed supra with four doors. if you want something close to a z performace wize and are byased toward toyota(a think you are)get a supra

I Agree, but toyota does boast the best parts backup system for their cars which effects their rantings, on average in the garage's that I work with, most toyotas come in with manuel gearbox/clutch problems, where as in nissan is normally in car electronics, ie Z32 300ZX 4WS the brushes at the back get worn down(well you are looking @ a system that has not been seviced since it was brought in 1989) and automatic gearboxs going lympo...
