200 hp ka24e

Is there anyway to boost a 1990 240 up to 200 hp with no turbo. I am looking into getting a red top sr20det. They push out around 202 hp around 6000 rpm i believ, not entirely positive though. I was hoping to at least just get the ka24e to 200 hp though, for me it'd be much more in my interest. I really want the speed, but don't plan on racing that much.

you can. it'd prolly cost about $15,000.

not worth it,just put your own turbo kit together

Datsun guys do built N/A KA motors all the time (funny that they swap IN what most of us swap OUT). New cams, forged-high compression pistons, intake, headers, exhaust, port & polish, flywheel/pulley... All of that shouldn't run up the costs too much, but don't expect amazing gains without further machine work.

Turbo KA would be cheaper and ideal (stock engine, low boost, pretty reliable)... some cases might be better than the red-top but if you're set with the SR, don't bother messing with the KA.

it can be done with 5k or so......

High Comp pistons, Cams, valvetrain upgrade, LIght Flywheel, pulleys, individual throttle bodies, computer, 4-1 header, no cat, 3" catback.

This would easily put you in the 200rwhp range.

Pulleys +3
Cams and valvetrain upgrade +25-30
Throttle Bodies +20
Pistons +10-30
Computer +10-15
Exhaust +15

Get a radical cam for it, most high lift ones make about 20hp on the top end. Get stronger lighter, aftermarket valvetrain components to rev higher and make more power, this is a good 10horsepower right there easily. Now to do it right I would get a stand alone engine management system, and have it tuned by someone very good, this will unleash even more power. With it tuned right you can also run a higher compression level, 10hp is easy to do, 20hp is ok, 30hp would require some good tuning and fuel probably. Get a 4-1 header, test pipe, and a THREE INCH catback exhaust system, that will probably give 15hp on the top end especially when matched with all the other components. Pulleys give you a little more hp, as does the flywheel and help it rev up easier. Individual Throttle bodies provide a direct path for air into the engine. NO sensors, filters, piping to contend with, better throttle response and an increase in power as well, must be paired with a stand alone computer as you are eliminating the MAF.

its really not that much money when u see what kind of money people waiste on GOOD thought out turbo systems(especially with a rebuild)

for most really built up turbo engines its actually cheaper and less parts, everyone thinks building up a NA motor is more expensive then making a 500hp turbo motor. This is not true if you really think about it, whoever said 15k is a damn moron. You still buying a computer, your still buying a cam, pistons, exhaust manifold, exhaust, Pulleys, Clutch/Flywheel and valvetrain pieces. on top of that is only the individual throttle bodies, this can be done cheaply so I thought by cutting up a sr20det GTiR intake system. Then I saw a picture of one guy who did something similar. He weilded them onto his cut in half ka runners and it looked pretty damn good. You can pick up a used set of those rather cheap(under a grand, good mod for what it provides) but they are sort of rare.
I also see some for around a grand going on ebay that are made by companies but I do not know how these fit. Also you can use throttle bodies off other cars but you need to realize u need to support a certain amount of power, you can't get some small ones off a motorcycle. even a stock GTR manifold might work, but the throttle linkage would be tricky to hook up without the other two throttle bodies on it.

You still do not have to buy things like a turbo, intercooler, BOV, turbo electronics, fuel system, wastegate, turbo piping...so you really do save on a lot of stuff.

Someone also posted a pretty sweet carb'd ka setup. Another thing to look into when building an N/A motor.
