Rims for 98 Crown Vic

I've Been contemplating putting the newer Cobra R type rims on my Crown Vic, has anyone tried this? The only concern I have is the offset for the smallest Cobra rim that I could find 17"x9". Dont know if it will clear adequately, but I'm willing to try. Would like to hear some stories if you have any, and what you encountered when you tried to mount aftermarket rims up.
