okay last night i was delivering pizzas when i realized that i didn't have much time but, i had a bunch of places to go. So i let my caprice unwind a bit. Well a bit to much because when the cop behind me finally got close enough to pull me over i realized that my speedometer was buried. He walked to the car and said "I don't know how fast you were going but i was running over 100 and i couldn't catch you." Some how i ended up getting a verbal warning for it but, i thought i was going to jail anyone else out there got any other storys like this.

Wow, I can say ONE time and ONE time only i also got that lucky. I was on I-77 North towards Charlotte...Late like usual, on a '97 GSXR 750 doing about 110...the cop was on the other side of the hill and when i saw him he was pointed towards me and i was thinking there wasn't any way he would try and catch me...SHE finally got me and said she didnt clock me but she knew i was speeding...she clocked me from behind at 97mph while trying to catch up...i explained the story and wow she told me to get outta here and try to keep it under 10 over. Since then...i haven't been pulled over but i haven't given up my love for speed. Nice one though...

I summer day was headed south on I-75 about south of Columbus OH when I put the pedal to the metal in the ol '78. The needle was buried for a few miles, not sure how fast i was going but it felt about right.

I finally slowed down and stopped at a greasy spoon to get a bite to eat and about half way through a cheeseburger a Highway patrolman walked in, looked around, (there was about five people there, I guess he knew most of 'em) sat down at my table, lays down a ticketbook and asks for my drivers license.

He looked at it a minute, slid the book over and said "sign on the line" I guess he ran the plates while he was outside because the ticket was all filled in already. (He wrote 100mph)

"How'd you know?" I asked.

He said, "well, there's only two of us that patrol this area, I sit at one end of town and my partner sits at the other. When i saw that red streak of lightning go by I radioed my partner to be ready....when you didn't show i figured you musta wrecked it, so I started toward town, and thats when i saw that big red boat in the parking lot."

"Yeah, but how'd you know it was me and not some other red car?"

'cause your is the only one steamin' and sprayin' anti-freeze all over the place."

Well- I do have a pretty good one. I was deprting Hickam Air Force Base heading to dowtown Honolulu in my 87 Monte SS and as I pulled of of the military base, I merged into traffic right next to a tricked out Dodge Dakota R/T and the race began. As we proceded to accelerate past the 100 MPH mark we flew right by a motorcyle cop that was in pursuit of a different vehicle. Needless to say, he pulled off his chase and targeted myself and my partner in crime. Luckily for me, he didn't get me on radar, so he could only issue me a basic speed violation for $71. It definatley could have been a lot worse.

I'm in Columbus, OH, home of the now infamous sniper. Got on I-70 in my '94 cop-Caprice w/LT1 'Vette engine with K&N intake and dual flowmasters w/no catalytics. Haven't dyno-tested it, but I'm guessing 350-400 ponies, since the engine is rated at 300 or 305, I forget which. Along comes a dude in a Saleen Mustang. I was going about 100 merging into traffic from the onramp. He challenged me, and I took off. Lost him easy and I backed off at 140 mph. So much for those Saleen's! That's the quickest I've taken my baby so far, and I had a lot left. The car has been up to 185 mph with the previous owner. Passed an Ohio 'rooper on the shoulder, and he took off after us, but I got off the next exit and lost him. He couldn't hold a candle to my car. He also had a '94, but not sure if he had the 'Vette engine. Columbus still has a fleet of Caprice's, but not many anymore. Ya gotta LOVE these things! I have a few cop friends in my neighborhood, and they all drive Vic's, and they think thier cars suck. They want mine.

p.s. My shitty digital speedo reads up to 199, but the damn thing has a crack in the housing, so it doesn't always work. Often am driving with no speedo. Anyone know how much it costs to repair/replace? One mechanic said it could cost a boatload. Only thing I'm concerned with is how fast I'm going when I'm driving in town. On the freeway, no problem, I know that I'm going 75 by my tach reading, which would be about 1800-1900 rpm. Thanks.

i have a 305 with vortecs and what amazed me is i made that vic look like a civic. It made me feel good about my 305 but, i was smoking like a freight train from all the burning oil.

Yeah, that streach on I-77 around charlote is nice and straight isn't it? I used to drive that quite often in my 91 305. I've had it since high school and one time I was driving to Virginia Beach on 460 through the tidewater area. I forget the county names but the road is completely straight and flat for mile after mile, county after county until you get down there. Just trees on the side. Well being an adventurous 18 year old with a big car I decided to see how fast she'd go. There wasn't anyone else arround so I floored it. To this day I've no idea how fast it went since the numbers only go up to 85, but it was way faster than that. Another time I did what surely must have been an average of 95 to DC to make the 2000 new years eve bash. I was lucky I didn't get caught. Although the one time I did get pulled over, I got a ticket for going 74 in a 65. Right. I guess he was having a bad day. Or maybe I just looked fast. Nothing says look at me like a huge white car. lol.

First, LT1 is 260hp stock, and with your intake and exhaust, you've added maybe 10hp, at the flywheel.

Fading speedos is a common problem. You could take yours out and clean all the contacts or buy a good used one for about $100 at most and swap them.

Didn't get caught, but how about 164 indicated in a twin-turbo Pantera. Southbound on I-81 in Harrisburg, PA at about 3 in the morning. We passed a cop and figured he wouldn't even try. Well, he tried but we dusted him. Figuring we would just get off at our exit, we eased off a little to 140. Our exit had a cop waiting for us, so on to the next one. Every exit for the next 40 or so miles to the MD border had one waiting for us, so we just cruised on into MD. We were both 16 and too scared to go back, so we holed up in a Holiday inn in Hagerstown.

I drive back and forth from Pennsylvania to Colorado about 3-4 times a year. Nothing makes the small town heros feel encroached on like bringing a '94 classic with limo tint and of course the alley light screaming through their stretch of I-70. Well like a black cloud over my head I have been pulled over in every state here to there.
My favorite, Missouri State Patrol pulled me over about 30 miles from KC. Asked me to get out of the car come sit with him. So he began to tell me how we clocked me 115 from the opposite direction, with the speedo out like usual, I couldnt argue, but he said what he like most was that when he crossed the median to come after me he pulled over 145 in his vic. Low and behold his radio chimed in with an assistance call, another officer had one that would not pull over and was quickly heading his way. So he told me I had 40 miles to get out of his state and if he got finished in time and could catch me again I would be lucky if he didnt end up with the car.

Oh yeah, by the way...still have not received a ticket but I have been pulled over 10 times in the last 10 months. Most common reason, "couldnt help but notice that you were going a little fast, but I wasn't able to get you on radar. Lets slow it down ok." They just like to show they are still in charge!

I've got a wrecked 1993 caprice, ex police car, with a 305 and a good speedo(I bought it wrecked, and the axel is bent so I can't check, but I think the speedo is good.) If your interested in it for cheap drop me an email at [email protected] I'm taking the engine and trans out of the car but if there's any other parts your interested in (interior is trashed but the back half of the car has excellent glass) let me know. Its just taking up space in my drive way right now, and I'd be happy to let some parts go for cheap.

Let me know,
Tim

P.S. The driverside air-bag is still good, too!

On a trip back from windsor, me and my buddies decided to crank it up on north I-75 outta Pontiac. I'm in my '84 caprice with the 305 and my buddy has a '91 corsica with the 3.1. My friends corsica shuts off at 110, and I blew past him. The speedo was buried without the foot to the floor. It was a sight. We were flyin by vettes and mustangs. We even tried to get some hopped up civic to chase, but nobody would. I think they had to laugh. Thank god for Cobra radar detectors.

In regards to the reply by 2fast4me, about his car being able to go 185... I think that is a little far fetched. I've had my own car up to 144 and I had to let off becasue the back end got too foaty. If your almost stock caprice can go 185, I want proof.

i got stopped on cause i flew buy a mini van going 85, i was inthe far right lane going 110 headed for an exit on 476 and the pennsylvania state trooper pulled me over and i was in a 2000 impala police car, but i put the tag from my 95 caprice on it cause the impala isn't mine yet. the cop said it was still regestered to the township and he only gave me a speeding ticket on my caprice plate. it would have been funny to get a ticket that got charged to the police that gave me the ticket, but that could never happin. he said he was supposed to take the car.

Ok, heres the story, I got an 84 caprice, w/ a 305. All stock. I decided one day ta see what this old boat would do. I got up to 110 mph, and the govenor on the transmission stopped me there. It took a little bit, but I was able to disable it by removing one of the lead cogs to the govonor inside the tranny. Afterwards, I tried again ta see what the car could really do on some deserted country road. I got the car up to a lil over 150 right before the engine red lined. So i decided let off a little bit, and just let the car coast. A car pulled out way ahead of me, so I had ta got back down to the 35 mph speed limit so I wouldn't rear end the guy. After about another 1/2 mile, a cop car came up behind me, flashed his lights a little, and I got the picture. He said he never got the chance to clock me, but knew for sure that I was speeding, so he only put me down for a 50 mph ticket. Good thing too, i coulda lost my license if he was ready for me. And I had no idea a caprice could go that fast.

When I was in highschool, I used to drive my moms Jaguar XJ12 all the time (no, I'm not spoiled, it was a 10 year old second car for the family). I used to get pulled over all the time in that thing. I got out of almost all of them by telling the cop that it was my moms car, and I was just using it for the day while my car was in the shop, and I didn't have any idea it could go that fast. think the worst I got popped for was 75, in a 45, and while the cop was talking to me, a black 911 blew by us. The cop threw me my license and registration, told me to slow down, and took off after the guy, he must have been doing tripple digits easy. Come to find out from the older brother of a friend who was a county cop, they had been after that car for a while for flying up and down that road. I think the eventualy got him. Now, that's not to say I haven't gone faster that that, I think the fastest was an indicated 140 in my cousins new STi.

While I am not a total speed demon, ( I have worked for numerous public safety agencies over the years) I have had a few run in's with the Troopers and locals over the years. Now mind you I am talking about over the span of 30+ years.
The first time was with a 1970 Black/White 440 Fury I, I had just purchased. It was late on some of the most deserted highways in upper Westchester. I decided to let it rip, unfortunately, the locals were sitting by the side of the road about 1/2 way down this stretch of a 3 mi straight road. It was actually comical to see this 68 Ford trying to catch up to me as I easily cruised past him at 130. Well I kept going, not at those speeds, but just went home. A few nights later was when retribution came. The locals tossed the whole inside of my car looking for something to bust me on. Fortunately one of them knew I worked in the local radio shop and they let me go.
Next was about 7 years later, I was late for work, I was driving my brand new 77 Plymouth baby Fury, that also have the 440. On the New York State Thruway, I decided to make up some time, and pushed it to about 135, it took the Trooper in his own words about 7 mi to catch up, I did receive a summonse, but with a lucky break for me (he retired by the time it came to court) I got away with a rather stern warning from the Judge.
My last time and I mean LAST time was purely accidental, I was working for a Public Safety agency on Long Island as radio repair. I had just spent about 12 hours in a very noisy (hi velocity ventilation fans) and very hot (over 90 F) elevator/radio room on top of the Nassau County Medical Center doing repairs and a new install. It was about 1:30 am when I finally got out of there. I started heading home on the Northern State Highway. There was no one on the road. So I guess I went to about 90, on what is a very twist windy road. Next thing I relaize is I have about 5 NCPD cars behind me. I pulled over and after the usual interrogation, and verified who I was I was let go with an escort to the county border.
Now let me make this clear , I don't justify the out running of Police, thats plain stupid. If I had run into the officers of today back then I would be in the pokey. Rightfully so.
I do have other more comical run in's at much lower speeds, but I'll save that for another day.

back when i had my s10 i was driving to my friends house at about 7:45am to pick him up for school, i pulled into his driveway got my stuff together, then i looked up into my rearview mirror, and behold theres a cop sitting there behind me! apparently i didnt come to a complete stop at the last stopsign. before i even saw the lights flashing i was going down the road doin 75mph in a 30mph. i didnt even see the cop! well he put the screws to me, he got me for evading an officer, driving to endanger, speeding, when all was said and done i had a $500 ticket and an invite to appear in court. btw the s10 was a 2wd 6ft bed with a m22 4 speed and a 350cuin with 300hp :smokin:

When I was sixteen I was stopped for going 105 in a 25. I tried telling the officer that his radar must have picked up a bigger faster moving object but he told me to shut up cuase he could lock me up for reckless driving. The ticket was for $215.

I tried taking it to court and lost. The judge gave me no points, $115 in court costs and 10 hours community service. I always wanted to be a cop. I had a lot of cop friends. So I did my community service washing police cars for one of the local departments. I armoralled the cheifs Dodge Diplomat, it had bench seats. One of my buddies told me she was slipping all over that thing for a few days.

Years later I was dispatching for a police department and in walks the officer who gave me the ticket long ago, he looked shocked and was embarrased...He was handing in his application for the department I was working for. I told him the application fee was $215. He laughed. We got along great, never felt or held any hard feelings. He said when he clocked me that night he thought his radar was broken or something and that I was nearly airborne when I flew past him.

Now I`m the police for a big city department, we dont have time to run radar but I have done it in the past. I mostly tell people to slow down depending on what I clock em at.

Actually with the light bar + the spot light its about 130. If the car has dual spot lights its a little slower. The spedo tells ya what you can do with a slick top. they never run the car around the track with the antennas and light bar and everything.

My favorite pursuits do not involve going straight fast. No point in it. Varying speed, taking turns and going around obstacles is a real pursuit.
Going fast while going straight, you might as well sit in park with the siren on and pretend. :evillol:

I got my '91 caprice before the Indiana State Police got theirs, so everyone assumed that I WAS police. I guess the twin spots helped too. Mine was a used unit from Michigan. I tried driving normal when I got it, but there would be a HUGE line behind me! So i just ran with it. Never got a ticket, but several times had a Camaro pull up beside me and a uniformed officer would 'give the wave' and then zoom on down the road!
BTW my teenage son(back then) would put his hands behind his back while in the rear seat and act as if he were screaming and cussing at whoever was in the front seat! Actually he wasn't saying anything. We sure would get funny stares from the people in the cars around us. Laughed my*ss off when I finally caught him doing it!

Well i cut across three lanes onto Route 100 and saw him fly by me while i was on the off ramp : ). Another time i was on 695 in Maryland when a cop pulled me over for doin 95 in a 55....he said "at first i thought you were a cop, then i ran the plates" Then he said," I like your car but im still going to have to give you a ticket." lol

One time I was going down to Dairy Queen, and I was doin about a buck seventy-five in my lambo, and these two hot chick cops pulled me over. They were all "what're you doing goin that fast... you don't have anywhere important to get to when we're already here next to you." So i was like, "OKAY, whatever biatches, i'll let you both ride the jock, but it's gonna cost a thousand bucks each. And you have to leave your cop hats on."

So after we banged for a couple hours on the hood, i took my newly acquired two grand and bought all the Dairy Queen i could handle.

True story.
