my exhaust

hey i got a 94 civic sedan vti (vtec sohc) underneath my car, the piping for the exhaust is 2.5" when i bought the car, it was already like this. i dont know if i got a aftermarket header, the heat shield is stillk on, and the way my muffler looks, its no stainless steel muffler. it looks liek a stock muffler with a stainless steel tip.

and the sound my exhaust sounds, is loud. evenwhen ur inside the car, it rumbles so much, especiialy in the back seat, u can hear it so much and feel it.
what i am asking is, is my muffler really stock
can the piping only, make such huge exhaust noise.

and also, when i am traveling at around 60-70 kph (australia) i can here some thing in the car. the sound to me is like in racing cars. the thing which hols the 2 front or rear tyres. the axle. i dont know really. but it is sumthing spining together with the wheel. it just gets louder and louder, then goes away when lower thean 50kph.

i dont know but i would like more help on the exhaust part.

thanks

check the top of the tip because it might be DCSports because my muffler looks somewhat stock but has a huge tip and sounds nice

A MAJOR increase in noise can not be the result of the piping alone - the muffler is really the determining factor.

is teh exaust leaking or maybe there is a hole----i kno a tip alone wouldnt produce crazy sound--and as for teh header i havnt seen an aftermaket with a heat shield---try removing it and checking the stamps

exactly what beastiek2 said - that happend to the muffler on my car, i had a huge leak where the weld was, so i got a flowmaster - just the muffler, looks 100% stock - even the tip, AND the actual muffler, but it sounds hella deep and loud inside, and outside my car, you may have a flowmaster - its a great system!

thanks ill check 2 morrow. its quite late at night now.
so u can get exhuasts which looks standard, but are the tips on them welded on. the only thing i know is that, there is now holes or leaks, cause on the exhuast, the holder came off, which did make a little hole, but the shop fixed that and examined the exhuast and said no more holes. but yeah, my exhaust sound is quite deep. but for sho the pipe is 2.5" compared to my friends 94 prelude vtir. he said mine is bigger.
does any one have a link to apic of an exhaust (stock looking type.) like u guys said.

and also is there no way to find out if the headers is aftermarket but just looking under the car. (not lifted up)

and if i do try and take out the shiled, there is some shiny thing whcih goes through a hole on the sheild which connects to sumthing on the header i thing. its kinda like the shap of those camera films. the black container. sumthing like that but shiny. i can really remember unless i go out sid ean dcheck but i'll be noisy and wake up my parents.

but the shiny thing connects throught the shile to sumthing and on the other end of the shiny thing is a green string or cable which i forgot where it leads too.

but do u guys now what that is.
and if i do take out the sheild, how. there are bolts on it. and to take it out, i have to take out that shiny round thingy. and will there be like a trademark or sumthing. and i'll have to wit till the whole engine cools down right.

thanks

The piece you are talking about is an oxygen sensor.

If I was a betting man, I'd say your header is stock. If you have large piping, though, at some point you'd need to have a diameter increase - if you can verify that that point is after your header, then the header it is definitely stock.

The heat shield comes off with a couple of bolts, and at least on my gen civic, you don't need to take the O2 sensor out (just disconnect it) to pull the heat shield off.

Sounds like you have a stock EX model exhaust

aight then but either my exhaust has a leak/hole or it is a aftermarket exhuast.

i'll checklater.

so if i do have a larger pipe size, i can still have a stock header.
