is 100k too much for a 95 vtec? please help!

i'm looking at a 1995 black vtec lude. it's, loaded, selling for a resonable price, but the only thing that gets me is that it has 100,686 miles on it, plus, it's been sitting for about 6 months with a dead battery. if i was to get it for around $9-9500, do you think it's a good buy?

get a compression check done on it. if it's in decent shape, then the guy wont mind you gettin a comp check. if he stops you, he's flaky.


i'd talk him down to under $9000.

100,000 miles is never too much for a honda. :D

I bought a 94 Prelude Si, with 115000+ , and i still rape civics with an oil leak and intake. Honda motors are good to last for a while, unless you drive it hard (meaning flooring it thru 1st and 2nd) if its just a daily drive to get from point A to B...you'll be find, but 9k is a bit much....

I started driving my 95 prelude from 121k and up. The previous owner took care of it, but I think he raced it a bit, lifter noise.

used preludes are hard to come by in unabused condition especially the vtec version( why would someone get vtec if they aren't going to use it?). Check for any unusual sounds on cold start, rattling. If cosmetics and upholstery is in best condition and so is engine, 9k is ok. But if they have wear and the bottom of the car is scratched up, 8k and under.

I bought my 92 prelude Si(4ws) with 160,000 miles on it. It's in great shape and I expect to get another 100K out of it. Hondas are built to last. I put down $3,600 for it and it is in perfect condition- an old mechanic owned it. I looked up the value of your 95 vtec lude on Kelly Blue Book, and the value of it in good condition is $6,110. that's wholesale price of how much a dealer would pay to buy the car, but he's not going to get the car for that price. I went to www.kbb.com and searched for the price of 1995 VTEC prelude at 100k and retail price was $9,305 for my location, southern california.

keep in mind a dealer won't sell the car unless he can make money from it.

By "loaded" do you mean factory or aftermarket stuff?

I agree with another post about what do you buy VTECs for? To drive them like nuns? Hell no.

I found and bought a (decent, not perfect) 93 Si in June/03 with 122K for $3500. I would never buy a VTEC unless I was absolutely sure it hadn't been driven too hard... and since I was never sure about the VTECs I looked at, I chose the Si instead.

I'm not sorry for that decision - I wouldn't buy a VTEC from myself, that's for sure...

There's NOOOO WAY I'd pay $9k for that car. I've looked on ebay and found 97-98 SH lude's with like 50k miles on them for under 10g's. I would maybe pay $7500 for it if it had a perfect exterior and interior and thats just a maybe with that many miles. If it looks good and still runs good(All the Honda's my family had had ran fine even past 150k miles) I wouldn't offer more than say $6500(if they say they can't go that low, show them some of the prices for a new model SH on ebay and they may realize they ain't gonna get no 9g's+ for a 95 with 100k+ miles.)

keep in mind ebay's not a retail market. you won't be absolutely sure you can get it for that price. also, I don't know if they let you test drive the car before you buy it. you don't get to hear, smell, touch, and see the car.. you gotta judge based on pictures and what they tell you about the car.

i agree completely - unless the ebay car is seen and driven before an offer is made, you're playing a fools game... hey, NOBODY on this website would ever do that, right?

I got my fully loaded black leather interior red 94 vtec lude with 109k for only 6 g's in the ny/conn area. It still runs great and very hard engine wise, only i just had to get the clutch redone and new tranny bearings recently. :( Other than that she's been running great with a oil leak, i'm at 121k now....

All of this stuff abour prices - jeez - every market is different unless you live in Antartica. What's available in St. Louis is completely different from Denver or Miami. I mean, who knows? You buy a lude in Cleveland in March and you see the same thing four months later in your own local car rag for $3000 less. It's a total crap shoot INCLUDING the internet listings. All you can do is zero in on a time frame and market area and GO for it. If anyone has any better suggestions, I like to hear from you. It sucks to lose $ based on a comparison with another market, but what else can we all do? God, I wish there was a true realtime market based on FACTS and truth.... don't we all?

I've always had second thoughts about my various ludes and integras, but what the f---. We all live in this shit market and do the best we can. If you want to throw 10Gs at a 94 VTEC, DO IT! Then consider what you can lose by buying the WRONG house, as I did. Life sucks, but its not too bad whatever the outcome - unless you get taken by a Neon.

From what i hear everyone say the 95 vtec prelude is the fastest prelude to ever hit usa so if i were u i would go for it but the price too much i paid 9000 for my 97 prelude with 25000 miles on it but it had a salvage title and i never have problems with it. but before i buy it i would have a shop check everything and i agree with having the compression checked on every one of the cylinders. cause if u dont have the same compression on each one of the cylinders then u have a problem with the head internaly. i had that and my vtec didnt work cause it didnt get enough compression.

I just bought a 95 vtec lude, the engine shines runs like a champ, the exterior is gorgiouse, with a full body kit...afew mods, full sound system with 12" sub and nice deck. Full leather seats and all the works. It has a few miles on it 137k, it runs wonderfully...and i couldn't complain, these honda's are ment to last, since vtec is such a boost of power in this preludes, the jap's build them extra tough so they can take it. I wouldn't worry about it...the one thing different then you, is that my car when i baught it had been taken care of and had been drivin consistantly. Be carefull of a car that is sitting around for 6 months, things go wrong when you let cars sit. Anyways get it checked out and don't worry about that milage, if it was taken care of it has another 150k left on it.....hope i helped at all..

I wouldn't concern yourself with miles. I have a 93 2.3 with a very hard driven 185k, street and track. and it ain't got a tick, a leak, or burn oil. plus you're looking at a H22a which is a better motor than mine. I had a friend put 308k on his H22a before he sold it 2 years ago and I still see it around!
