The motor on my 2001 Sierra is about to give up the ghost. How hard is it to replace the motor? I am pretty handy at working on cars and have the tools but would appreciate all tips, links, advice, etc. Also what is the average cost for a replacement window motor?? Thanks in advance.

Just wanted to give you or who ever some tips on the window motors. 1. Do not believe any one that tells you that you can not get a motor by it self. Because you can. They are on back order but it will only cost you about $80. When a regulator and a motor will run you about $300. (Have a dealer locate it for you.)
2. First try to take your original off take it apart and clean it. Driver side gets used more!!
3. When you take it apart be smart. Do not rush it. Take the 4 screws out of the top. Slowly remove the top section with the gear. Do not yank on it. When you get it off you will see a set of brushes here is a smart part get a 13 or 14 mill deep well socket put it over the shaft and guide the brushes on to a socket as you are bulling the motor of the brushes. This will save you hours of trying to get the springs back in to the housing and brushes back on to a motor.
Get some electrical motor cleaner it will run you about $3 or so. You can find it at a hardweare store or in a electric supply place.
Give this a shot it worked for me on my 2001. And for other friends.

You can buy these units off of Ebay I got a brand new one for my 2000 PU for around $60 with everything included. I bought a new front one for the wifes 01 LeSabre. The Hardest part is getting the door panels off.
