Which car can you make faster A skyline GT-R34 of a brand new fastest corvette plz be detailed. Feel free to say many bad things about AMERICAN CARS and skylines.

this has been gone over quite a few times.
it's unfortunate, but the skyline is outclassed here.

the zo6, stock, can, and does, beat on the r34 in most trim levels.
r34 gt-r skidpad: .88
zo6 skidpad: almost 1 g.

most skyline owners don't want to admit this ( ;) ) but it's pretty much true.

when you start dumping money into the cars, the difference gets even greater.

a 650hp z06 from lingenfelter runs 9's in the 1/4 on street slicks. it takes considerably more hp in a skyline to do the same...

top speed of that 650hp zo6? 230+
i've not seen a skyline run that fast with that hp rating...

the fastest car on the wangan (in japan) the last time i heard, was a tt auto corvette, not a JDM supercar...

don't get me wrong, b/c i love the skyline, but the vette is going to beat it out, hard.

honestly, this is a loaded question in this thread, but i'm willingly going to submit to whatever banter comes up..

and anyone who knows me knows that i know quite a bit about both cars, so i'm not some silly biased person...

There has to be a modded skyline that can beat a Vette?

hey, flylwsi... did you read that article in SCC? About the Wangan-style highway racing? LoL I loved that article... I can almost smell the burnt rubber and hear the BOV of huge turbo-ed Skylines... it mentioned the fastest car was a Corvette...

No doubt, there are some GT-Rs that are faster than 'Vettes. However, there are probably even more 'Vettes that are faster than GT-Rs.

I saw a picture from a wangan meet, and someone had a retired C5R out there. With those race proven aero enhancements and the light race-trimmed weight, it is probably one of the fastest cars out there.

yep...
that's the article i'm referring to...

what it comes down to, is that for the same power, the skyline can't complete.
a 650 hp skyline can't run with a 650hp c5...

them's the breaks... ya know?

i'm not saying that there aren't faster skylines than vettes, but when it comes down to it, the options with a vette are just sick.

especially when you consider that you can build a NA vette that will more than run with a skyline...
which is messed up... ya know?

there's only one option with a skyline. bigger turbos...
a vette can be built huge NA, and THEN step up to FI, which makes it pretty much insane...

Yeah... I guess you're right... but with the NEW R35 coming out... I heard it's gonna be a NA VH45DE V8 engine... What are the Vette's gonna do then? LoL

The VH was the 1st and 2nd gen Infinti Q45 engine. They aren't produced anymore. The GT-R probably won't get a V8 because of weight distribution issues, but if it does, it would probably be a VK.

If the VK was used, the GT-R still wouldn't have the NA potential of the 'Vette, simply because of displacement. The C5's LS1/LS6 already has an advantage of 1.2L on the VK45, and is still bigger than the bigger VK56, better known as the 'Endurance' V8 found in the Titan pickup(5.6L).

Nissan would possibly use a smaller version of the VK, since the VK45 and VK56 are undersquare and don't have a revvy/sporty character. This would add to the VK's disadvantage even further.

The new C6's LS2 engine moves up to 6.3L, probably more than what the VK could be expanded to. Keep in mind that is the standard C6. Specs for the C6 Z06 haven't been released yet, but 500hp has been speculated.

There really is no replacement for displacement. Sure you can make up for it a little with FI and technology if you have a small motor...but the other guy with the bigger motor can always add it too, and he'll get even more power.

can anyone explain this to me? How come the vette is much faster than the skyline if it has the same 650hp? is the vette much lighter or better aerodynamics or more torque? sorry, i don't know much about vettes so thats why i'm asking. thanks.

It's probably all three of those reasons you mentioned.

FYI, Corvettes have fiberglass bodies. This means that even the models with iron block engines in the past weren't all that heavy.

Aerodynamics I'm not too sure about. I'm pretty sure that at least the R34 GT-R had a lower cd of drag than the C5, but drag coefficients aren't the end all-be all of aerodynamics. The C5 does have a much cleaner looking shape, and it doesn't have the add-on aero enhancements the R34 had, such as the front splitter, rear diffuser, rear wing, and the front and rear undertray pieces.

As far as torque goes. It's pretty obvious. A motor like the LS1/LS6, even in NA form, will still have a torque advantage over a turbo RB26 with less than half the displacement. The advantage is pretty apparent, even in stock form. The R34 GT-R had about 289lb-ft, and when the C5 debuted in 1997, it had 350lb-ft.
