98 Blazer LT. Driver's side mirror vibrates when driving. Is the glass removable without removing the entire housing?.ie, the door panel.

Just remove the door panel and tighten the bolts holding the mirror on..

I'll try it, but it looks more like the glass is vibrating in the housing, not the housing itself. These are power mirrors.

I;ve had that problem, it still occurs, all I do is move the mirror a bit and it tightens it. It does losen again, just move it again.. voila... yeah, silly thing, look for a fix, why spend $125 cdn for a new mirror.

I have the same problem. Had to replace the mirror due to it being cracked..part was aftermarket..didn't go through GM as they wanted double over the counter. Now it shakes at fast highway speeds.
Guy that runs a body shop told me there is no way to tighten the glass, but to get some foam..bunch it up and put it in behind the mirror.
Might be a little budget but may just do the trick.
Haven't tried it yet.

When your hinge pins were dead, did your door refuse to stay open?

Not really. It was just something that they said needed to be replaced , that it was common, and that it needed to be done before the door fell of. Not sure I believed the part about the door falling off. I had the same problem with the mirror, and was going to have it replaced, but when they told me how much it was I was like, fuck that. Then the hing thing came up which kind of had to be done and it fixed it without trying.

That is so annoying. Try this hold mirror in place and work switch to tighten it up or move mirror mamually then readjust with switch.Works for me

I had the same issue, I never fixed, I just replaced the mirror. The mirror had a crack so instead of just doing the glass I did the housing and all. Only cost me $50. Well it would have cost that but the glass guy did it for free as long as he got to replace my back window if you catch my drift.

I bought a aftermarket mirror on my truck and it to vibrates... I stuck a foam tape on the adjustable part of the mirror and all is well.

You should try and get the newer style mirrors with the large swivel hinge, the older "bubble" style is notorious for cracking on the bottom and vibrating like mad.

aren't the large swivel hinge kind mirrors only available on 98 and newer blazers?

Yep... Have a set on mine with the defrosters on them.

rlith, was it pre-wired, or did you wire 'em?

The way that they connect to the wiring from the truck is different, if I recall you have to make your own connections.

hmmm, i know that they are useful to have, but how often do you guys use them?

I just used the pigtails off the door harness and the pig tails off my old mirrors to make a translation harness. Then wired the heater element to my rear defrost circuit.

my mirrors seem to flap in the breeze because one hole on each side is stipped. any ideas how to fix?

Do you mean the mirror stud on each side? The only thing I could think of for that would be to re-cut it with a die and use a new nut... Or replace the mirrors.

If you can find it:

I had the same problem with a wiggly mirror, then - someone slammed a car door into it and did me the favor of leaving it there on the side of the truck, dangling by a wire. *sheesh*

I found a special epoxy used for metal-plastic bonding, that once cured will withstand about 35,000 PSI of pressure. This is NOXIOUS smelling stuff, so do it outdoors or in a ventilated area. Glue the stripped studs back into the mirror with this stuff, and let it set for an hour. Once cured for an hour, it's ready to be handled. Bolt it back up. My mirror is wiggle-less and the bond is plenty strong. I now fold my mirrors back daily to keep the idiot neighbors and the freaks parking mud-tired, jacked up monster trucks into compact car zones on campus from whacking my mirrors off. So far, it's held up for more than a year of me flipping it in and back out, daily.

Buy the 98.5+ mirrors, that is the only fix to this problem. The older mirrors tend to crack on the bottom of the mirror by the swivel. That, in addition to the fact that they are made with very cheap and not sturdy plastic, is causing the vibration. Replace them with the bulky 98.5+ mirrors.

i'd like to eventually replace them because the front part of the base is gone on the drivers side. it looks like someone in the past tried to glue them down. thats why i'm not gonna glue them down at this point

but then again, the triangle piece that it bolts to the body with looks the same.. can you convert the flimsy style mirrors to the double swivel kind?

i wish i had defrosters, i just wipe mine off with the sweatshirt or something lol.

Nope... The triangle mount is the same shape but you can't swap them with the other mirrors..

Are you saying you can not swap out the mirrors from a 1995 96 97 with the mirrors from a 99,2000,01 etc?
