I want to get a 1970 chevy nova and i want to get a new crate motor from gm but the ones they sell have vortec heads does that mean i have to get all the stuff only made for the vortec heads like the intake manifold. Or would any thing fit as long as it was for a 350.

yes u would have to get the intake manifold for the vortec heads... sorry. i think the exhaust mount the same though. if u have the money i suggest putting 1000 extra into a set of Dart Iron Eagle heads. 1000 will get ya the entire head assembled valves to the springs. these heads are specially designed for racing and fit any chevy small block up to like 82, not sure how high it is. the intake and everything matches stock chevy though and theyre better than vortec(ick....) if u dont know anything about heads then if ur building a 350 or higher and do not care about gas...hehe then get the 2.02 intake 1.80 exhaust 64cc heads im not sure what the runners are. but if ur engine is smaller than a 350 or 327 or u DO care about gas dont get intakes bigger than 1.90 You DO want the 64 cc though as it will up ur compression ratio by a lot and improve performance adn gas mileage by quite a noticeable amount. but u will need to run at least 91 octane. srry :( if u dont want to do that then just get the 76cc, that chevys stock size. u will still get the performance and match up, just not as much performance ;)

You'll get more for your money by having a competent engine builder build you a small block that meets your performance requirements. Crate motors are vastly over rated and under-built. The first thing you do to a factory Chevrolet engine for racing is take it apart and blueprint it. Crate motors are no different. And a custom engine will have no market-related compromises.

I own a 79' Monte Carlo. It's got a semi built 350 out of a 78' Camaro. I figure i'll run it til it blows up. i want to drop a ZZ383 crate in it. But i m not sure what other parts i'll need to make it work.
