hey! i recently bought a '94 ex cop caprice with LT1 corvette engine, modified with a k&n intake and dual flowmaster w/no catalytics. cop chip still inside. i'm told the 'vette engine is 300 hp, but how much does the k&n and freeflow exhaust add? i'm told this car has/will hit 185 mph, with about 350-375 hp. sound right? so far, only had up to 127 mph, and that was just from the onramp into merging traffic on I-70. 0-60 is about 4-5 seconds, which doesn't seem to bad for a car of this weight! only 115K miles on it, and was run by a small town cop in MN to and from the station, no hard miles on it. no leaks, perfect body, perfect interior. massive sunroof added, and SS Impala grill put in, as well as 17" Impala rims, and new 255X50X17 Z rated tires. do i have a sleeper? i've had cops tell me they can't touch this car.
am i being fed a line of crap? is this car worth the $5K I paid for it? Any info appreciated. thanks!

i forgot to mention...not a thing wrong with this car, everything works, no rust, great sony stereo, all new brakes, all the radiators work, not a rattle anywhere, no body roll, etc. one thing..rear window defrost won't work, tho the light says it does. why doesn't it work? no lines are cut and all connections and fuses/relays work.

I think you got you moneys worth, I just paid $2,600 for an 89 with the 305, mine is an brogham LS, so its a little more plush on the inside, but personally I would rather have the ponies!
I just joined this forum this week, glad to see I'm not the only newbie.

Although I'd love to agree with many policemen that the Caprice was and still is the best cop car ever made - use some logic - theres no way that even the 350 is gonna take that car to 185, I've looked at sites giving the stats of all the cop cars both past and present and I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head but I know that the caprice had the highest top speed of all of them but and was above 150 but definitley wasn't as high as 185 something that weighs 5k pounds just isn't gonna make it that fast, unless its fallin off a cliff

Dont be mistaken by the "cop chip" story. There is no such thing as a special chip that was put in police cars. All the work is done with programming of the PCM. With the program the police use, the most they will have done for you is up your top end with the addition of z rated tires and disable your VATS. If your car doesnt have its original engine and you are running a higher performance engine on your stock PCM, you wont see much performance gains. With a reprogram, even with a stock engine, you will notice drastic differences. Go to www.pcmforless.com.

In responce to what fed92sled posted. I have been quite curious regarding pcm programing. I took my 94 9c1 back to the Sheriff's Department that owned it before I bought it hoping to get some maintenance records, and was rudely advised I would need a court order. I have had some wicked electrical issues and wanted to see what alterations were done. Later I found out from the city Police maintenance that Sheriff doesnt keep records like they are suppose to. But that mechanic advised that there are chips in the vehicles and that he would do some work for me off the job. That he could get these parts cheap, blah blah blah. I never did meet up with him again. I later went to a high performance shop and was quoted $1400 for pcm work. I was not interested. The prices that website you listed are reasonable, however, I checked out the order sheet and I have no earthly idea what all the spec's are. Can you advise an easy way to find out what they are and what has been altered and what has remained stock?

I had a million questions regarding pmc programming too, so i emailed brian. He is a good guy and answers all questions. If you want to get into doing it on your own, buy "LT1 Edit" program. I am going to do my own, or have my friend do it, who has Lt1 edit. It is very easy to use. No matter what route you go, you will notice a big improvement. I called up my police dept where my car came from, and they were very reasonable. They said bring the registration by and we can talk. I heard nothing about a court order. Oh well, good luck.

Yeah and that is the story I hear from most who have these cars. "NO PROBLEM......." Unfortunately for me that wasnt the case.
Brian, he is at pcm4less?
Thanks

I think he is the owner. If you go to www.impalassforum.com you will find him. I think Bryan's user name is PCMFORLESSKLR94SS.
