weird noise when i turn the car off

As you probably already know i have a 1996 base 3k and i recently have been noticing that when i turn my car off, when the engine stops spinning, and when i open my door i my garage i have been hearing like a small grinding sound coming from the engine. Does anyone know what this may be? I am getting kind of worried.

You mean after the car shuts off you then hear a grinding sound? Do you hear it at all if the car is running?

I dont here it when the car is running but i guess it is possible and i just dont here it. It is hard to explain.. just a grinding sound as the engine comes to a stop

does it soumd like a loud mouning/ hising noise. because the same thing happens with my sl since i took off my resignator bottle and put a filter on. it could be the air flowwing through the filter. or i could be completly wrong. it wouldn't be the first.

Well an open element filter would make the noise nightrider is describing, tahts normal. but that sounds like a vacuum, not a grinding, so i doubt thats the solution. Can you trace where the sound is coming from? And does it sound like metal on metal?

I do think it sounds like metal on metal.

Just the obvious...did you check your oil? Perhaps its low or should be changed.

Doesn't low oil make a clicking noise? And wouldn't he hear it when driving, especially at higher RPM?
