headlight bulbs

Is it ok to put 100w bulbs in your headlights if they came with a lower wattage(65w)? I think they will be brighter but will it take more power and cause problems later?

from what i've heard from this forum, higher wattage bulbs burn out quicker. if cheap, very fast

Noo!! Don't put in the 100w bulbs in a socket made for 65w. 65w means 65w. Liquidflame8, I think you have wattage and light temperature confused. Higher temperature bulbs tend to burn out fast if not properly installed. Try readinging the little sticky about bulb types, it's really informative.

Here's what I've seen and personally experienced with higher wattage bulbs...

They burn out WAY faster than they should. We're talking within months rather than years. I had a set only last my 6 months once. They can and WILL melt the inside of your headlight housings because of the higher amount of heat they generate. They can and WILL melt the plastic sockets they plug into.

I'd highly suggest Sylvania Silver Star headlight bulbs, as they are hands down the brightest street legal OEM stock wattage spec bulb on the planet.

As the thread states, check out PIAA lights or Silverstars. I personally love the PIAA Super Plasma's. There are other types of PIAA's too, and of course the aformentioned Silverstars. Just read the sticky thread, I explain it all in there.

Super high wattage bulbs can burn up so hot, that they make your light bulb plug nicely burnt and crispy. At one time, mine were so crispy, it fell to pieces. I had to plug each individual wire into the right prongs on the light bulb.
