1993 trans/engine help

Got a '93 with 3300 v6, auto trans. Car had been great for past 10 years.

Last summer I started having trouble with the car bucking and stalling when coming to a stop after driving over 50mph. Searching the net lead me to these forums, where I read about the dreaded torque converter solenoid problem. I disconnected cable to the solenoid and the car ran fine for several months.

2-3 months ago the car started running rough while accelerating. I replaced the ignition wires, which got the car to idle more smoothly, and solved the rough acceleration for the most part. But the car *seemed* to not have quite the same acceleration as it had in the past....I say "seemed" because some days I'd be thinking the car was sluggish and other days I'd think I was nuts and it was really just fine.

This past week the car has started running much more poorly again. Now it definitely has less power than it should when accelerating, and there's a roughness which is most noticeable while in 2nd gear (between 25-35 mph). It's most noticeable if your cruising at around 30 and then step on the gas...the car accelerates very slowly and there's a noticeable shuttering that can be felt. The car does end up shifting smoothly into high gear once it gets up to speed though.

My question for the group is - what do you think is the most likely cause of the problem I'm currently having? And do you think it could be related to the two previous problems (ie - it wasn't *just* the tcc sensor that was going bad, but something else in the transaxle (or another sensor somewhere else) which has just been steadily getting worse)?

Any advice or theories greatly appreciated.

I've got the '93 4 cylinder, and I have been driving with the tcc solenoid cable disconnected for about 10,000 miles so far and haven't had any other transaxle-related problems.

i have a 1993 V6 3300... and i had some accelleration problems 2 months ago. One problem, i had around 50mph and over.. and the spark plug wires were changed, and it seemed to run a little smoother, but still had alot of accelleration problems.. especially when stepping on the gas, i would get this hesitation and such.. then i cleaned off the Mass Airflow Sensor, and that fixed my problem completely. I still probably need a torque converter.. but until that actually goes, i may or may not replace it.

I have a 93 Grand Am 2.3L Quad (SOHC) .Exactly where is the TCC located so I can disconect it. I have read many of the threads but could not determine where the TCC is located. Thanks
