Mine is off. I didn't want to take it off because I thought it would make the X unstable. Not the case at all. I don't miss it one bit.

Don't have mine and don't miss it.
This would probably be a good poll.... Yes, No and "quick disconnects"

Disconnected mine (took off the endlinks), but left the sway bar attached to the axle. The anal dealers here seem to get really pissed off when they notice it off, so now I just slap on the bolts when I need to visit them and everybody's happy.
But to answer the real gist of your question, I only notice a slight difference. I feel I can tell the truck sway more in the rear end, but definitely not enough to warrant keeping it connected when onroad.

I ripped mine off about 6 months after I first got it. Didn't really notice it being gone even with the oem shocks.

The funny thing is, I think, most people before they remove it they feel a bit uneasy about taking it off. Then when it's off it's like no big deal...

My Girlfriend took my X to the dealer for a 25000 check up (km), soon after my cell phone rang:
"Yes this is Regency Nissan, who has worked on your suspension?'
Me: "No one why?'
RN:'Well your swaybars are off"
Me: "Ahh I did that for 4x4 purpose"
RN:"well you are going to roll the X on paved roads and we do strongly advise you not to tamper with the suspension"
Me: well does it void any warranties?"
RN: "No"
Me: " well have a nice day...click"
I got the invoice, under comments there it was :
Client strongly advised that removing rear Swaybar is not recommended..
Bwaaaaahahahaha
the only way to roll that truck is to drive like an ass...then agian if I drove like an ass I could roll a tank.

They're just protecting thier ass. I took my X into the dealer after my little bumper accident.
Me - "I know the bumper and fluid tank are damaged. Don't worry about it. I plan to fix it"
Latter that day I go to pick up my truck
Dumb Ass - "Sir did you know that your bumper is damaged and that the fuild tank is damaged"
Me - "Umm yes didn't I say that when I brought it in"
Me think - " Stop smoking crack on the job guy'

Damn, I am afraid to take mine into the dealer. I can see it now:
Dealer: "Uh, we have to disconnect your battery to work on it."
Me: "Yeah, so disconnect it."
Dealer: "Uh, we can't find it."
Me: "Have you looked in the poop deck?"
Dealer: "Why would we look there?"
Yada, yada, yada. It wouldn't be pretty. So I just fix the S@#$ that breaks myself. :)

Everyone is agreeing that they are doing well without the sway bar.
My question is why is the sway bar on then? I still have mine (whatever it is). Am I supposed to notice something? Or does it not matter unless you are off-roading?

Maybe if you take all the "rice" crap outta your truck and look under it you'd understand the function of a Sway Bar? :flipa:

Was that a personal shot at me?
Last time I checked they weren't making people crawl underneath Xterra's on the showroom floor to point out the sway bar and its functionality nor was it even mentioned during my last service appointment as something I may want removed.
It may have took only 2 seconds to click a remedial flip-off smiley, but it doesn't take anytime for you not to respond if you don't have anything positive to say or answer the question.

I think that was just a sorta joke and he meant to say that if you don't 4wheeel, you probably don't need to worry about it.
It helps on road and limits you off road.
Most people who off road know that improved articluation is of great benefit.
I wouldn't really waste my time asking dealers or showroom sales people what to "take off".......probably a liability issue.
You should do some research before any mods and make sure you understand the negitive impacts of these changes (don't be ignorant).

In my opinion its only there for lawsuit protection.
By the way, I read the foregoing post as a joke also. Lighten up, and welcome to the board! :)

Nicely put... The tradeoff is very minor for what you gain off-road. That's why I want revolvers... to improve articluation, right ned?!?!:D

Took mine off today:cool: and didn't notice a big change in my on-raod handling...and that's with stcok shocks/
After removing the bar, I do have one question. How much articulation will the rear wheels have? Everything on the truck that affects the rear wheels is stock.
I'm asking because I need to figure out what size Jack I need to buy to get the rear wheels off the ground.
Thanks

Better get a highlift cause the travel is quite big. Also I am surprised you noticed on road handeling....

Depends on where and why you are jacking. If you want to remove the tire then you can still use the factory jack just fine when sliding it under the axle, since that is not at all affected. On the other hand, if you need the axle to drop and want to jack up at the frame, you will probably want to look into a new jack. The factory one will lift my wheels off the ground if I put it right under the spring hanger, but that isn't the safest way to do it. Really though, the limiting factor is your shocks. They will stop the axle from dropping too far unless you put longer ones in.

Well, I only noticed it on REALLY sharp turns, and when I turned the wheel back and forth kinda quickly ro see how tippy it was. There wasn't that much of a difference (kind of surprised by that), but there was a small difference.
As for the lifting, I will be getting a high lift (64") but I also want a floor jack for tire/brake work in my driveway and whatnot. I'd be looking to use the frame/sliders or the axle depending on what I want to do. The Jack I have been using (not factory) barerly got my tires off the ground when I hit off the axle before, so I know it won't work now. I fcould always put the bar back on, but I plan on doing that only once more (when I drive home).

I have a 3.5 ton floor jack that is great for changing from the Swampers to the Grabbers. Costs less than a $100 at Schucks. It will lift 22", so if you go under the axle like I do for tire change outs you won't have to worry.

Why not?? Taking the sway bar off has nothing to do with how the axle is connected to the wheel/tire. Maybe I'm missing something here but you're confusing me. :bloated:

I drive hard on road so I use mine (Calmini Quick Disconnects). I pull some trailers too and it seems to help then.
Probably better off without them unless your riced out and then off-road performance and suspension give doesnt mean anything anyway.

I too have taken my sway bar off. I was wondering if anyone thought the bolts were really cheap and the threads on the nuts sort of weak. I tried to put it back on after moab, but couldn't get the big bolts to thread back on. Had one on each side give me trouble. Luckily one of those guys that is "good with tools" was there, and he helped me get the sway bar back on. then just before a run in WA, i took it off, and i haven't put it back on since. that was about 5 or so months ago. so why post this just to agree with everyone?
well my question is, if i'm going to take a trip from Portland to LA with the family, what is the boards thoughts on putting it back on for a long road trip?

Im currently running rear Bilsteins with my sway bar still attached. I didnt like how my stock shock was dented up, so I contacted Bilstein and asked if I could run them up-side-down. They said that the valving is the same either way, So my passenger side rear shock is up-side-down with two holes cut in the boot to drain any water, and the driver's side is running the regular way. I have the sway bar still attached, and the truck handles beautifully around turns with little to no body-roll.
If the Calmini rear disconnects are good, then I'll get those for offroading. OzXterra, How do you like the Calmini's? Are they easy to disconnect on the trail? do they collect any mud or crap inside them while offroading? Does the bar bang around when they're disconnected? Thanx for any info.

Thanks, that IS interesting, hearing that Bilstein ok's the upside down mounting. I may follow your lead as I do notice some mild sway when I drive mine hard (stock except for the H2 Bilsteins and the sway bar in my closet). I will look into using a motorcycle front fork boot so no crap gets inside.
