ALright my check engine light is on I know what the problem is. Its my EGR valve. Its flowing insufficiently so the thing said, what is the EGR valve, what does it do, and how important is it? How much would one cost or is there something else I can do to make it stop making the engine light come on.
Thanks

EGR valve opens up at high engine load to cool the engine, when it thinks it's going to get too hot.
The way it works is that exhaust gasses (innert gas) displace burnable air in the cylinder, and the engine has less fuel mixture to burn, so less power but less heat is produced.
Not important, seeing as how some people use an EGR blockoff plate.

Sounds like one of those, "if you want to get it fixed, go for it, if not, just keep an eye on your temp gauge" issues. If having the light on really annoys you, then get it fixed. But unless you notice your engine temperature getting too high, you should be good.
