2000 GT Cruise Control Problem

Wondering if somebody may know the answer to this question:
My cruise control will occasionally cut out, I have noticed this only within the last couple of weeks. It will be running fine, then it cuts out like I am hitting the brake.
Now my first thought is that there might be a loose connection, and when I hit a shitty part of the road with a lot of vibration, the cruise wire might be disconnection breifly, however I'm just not sure.
My other thought might be that my carb is sticking causing the rev's to bounce around, and that is why cruise cuts out. The reason I am thinking this is I have noticed a slight bouncing of the rev's. Again I just don't know as this may be paranoyia from the problem at hand.
So I am wondering if anybody has experienced this same problem, or if not might have an educated guess as to what this might be.
Any help is appreciated in advance as I have a long trip planned for this car in a month and I want to make sure it will make it

I have a 2001 Grand Am and the same thing is hapening. It appears that the slightest turn to the left drops the cruise out. Since this started happening there is the engine reving when driving. The tach will jump anywhere from 200 to 1000 rpm's. Had it in the shop and they drove it but of course then it would not act up. Any help?
