car idle ???

My car idles at 500rpm... is that normal?
and when i shift gears if i hold the clutch pedal down the idle drops straight to 500rpm... but i can peel out in second gear and everything else is fine... only wondering becuase my car used to idle at around 1500-1900rpm... any suggestions anyone?

1500-1900 thats high.it should be around 750-900.you can adj the idle screw try that.

ive already tired the idle screw... it doesnt work that well... it either revs real high or stays low at 500rpm...

another issue is that my exhaust wreeks like gasoline........ anyone know whats the heck is up with it?

Well you could be running a rich mixture. This usually leads to bad idling, smelly gasoline stenches, white/black smoke and what not....what to do? Try new fuel injectors if you have high miles on yer car

what does it mean when you are on the highway going about 50 and down shift it into second and you see a whole bunch of white smoke coming out? is it a bad sign of the car dying?

Damn man if im goin 50 and shift to 2nd gear im around 6k rpm.

never downshift to second when ur on the freeway unless u have a long ass gear.shift to third.for the white smoke might be head gasket.white means coolant in ur head.

Oh i never have downshifted at that speed I was just figuring by about if im ever just in 2nd gear going 50 thats about where my rpms would be. Only way ill go to 2nd on the highway is in a traffic jam goin bout 10-15mph, lol.

your civic will obviously have a diff box to my CRX, but I can downshift to 2nd at 70 or 80km's/hr. (50mph) and it takes it fine. (Then takes off!! :D )
