I just got this 93 escort wagon and I had a new cd stereo and new front speakers installed by Best Buy (please cut me a break, I'm a girl and know nothing about stereo installation, wiring, etc.). Everything works except the driver-door speaker. The Best Buy guy told me the problem was with a wire connector part (wire harness??), which would need to be replaced before the speaker will work. He explained Best Buy did not have the equipment to take the door off the hinges, nor the part, but it could be ordered by a body shop, and thought the cost of the part might be $30. Does this information I was told sound correct and does anyone out there know exactly what part I am referring to?

I'd go bakc to Best Buy and talk to someone other than that guy. The door wouldn't need to be taken off the hinges and I'm sure if he knows that a body shop can order one he can get one too. What does a body shop have to do with audio equipment anyway?
It just sounds like they messed up and don't want to fix it. I'm sure they just forgot to connect something or spliced the wrong wires.
Don't happen to live in MI do you? If you do I could recomend someone to look at it or even check it out myself.

Did the old speakers work at all before they wre replaced? If so, you should know that there is no problem with your connectors. If the speaker did not work at all, I suppsoe it is possible that something isn't working.... However... it is very unlikely that an installation guy at Best Buy took the time and effort to test the wires properly.
It is very likely that they screwed it up and don't want to fix it. Talk to someone else or go to another Best Buy. Make sure you do it as soon as possible... you probably only have 2-4 weeks to get it fixed without charge.

Yeah, the old driver's side door speaker didn't work either. I was there when he was installing the new ones and he spent quite a significant amount of time on that door. I bought the insurance for the speakers so I will go back to Best Buy and speak with someone else. Nonetheless, if the second guy says he can't fix it, doesn't have the part, etc., what is the next step?

just about any auto parts store should be able to hook you up with the piece you need. The part doesn't really have a specific name... it is just an electrical connector. I would suspect that a wire is bad or loose rather than the connector. But ya never know. It should be pretty simple for someone that knows what they are doing. Speakers are not that complicated.
