Problaby a bad heater core. I had the same smell in my Durango and no signs of leakage anywhere inside of the vehicle. Pressure tested the core and the core has a very small leak. Apparently the leak was big enough to give off a smell to alert you something is not right. If the leak was any bigger, you would definitely see fluids around the interior which is not a good thing. Replacing the heater core isn't cheap either. Part runs near or over hundred bucks and labor to replace that is 3-4 times that.
Best to buy the part from the dealer. They provide you with a good warranty on the part. I think my core from Mopar is a 3 yr/36k core warranty. Also when you buy the core, better take it out of the box for inspection before you leave the parts house. I went to 2 dealers that only had 1 left in each location. both cores did not look in good shape. One core had rust all over the place. The other core looks like a parts return. Also, some people says that some of the cheaper cores have plastic housings so avoid those as well. So far, all the cores I have checked out from Mopar are all 100 percent metal cores.
