wider tires????

well finally somethin positive with my car...its been a rough month with having to rebuild trans and try to figure out gas problem...anyway, i just got a real decent deal on an audio system from a buddy of mine

my question is this, the subwoofer box weighs about 100-110 pounds and is gonna be put where the t-tops would be stored...i realize that this weight may inhibit the performance of my car...will putting some wider rear tires on make up for it?? kinda like less pounds per sq. inch hitting the pavement??

Here's am idea. It will take some time but the finished product will be nice. Instead of putting the woofer box where the t-tops go, put each woofer on the side. Put it where your spare goes on one side and that empty space on another. This will look great and you still have all the t-top space. Don't let people tell you building a woffer box is real difficult and uses "special materials". A box is a box. Hope this gives you an idea. Sorry for not anwser your actual question. I don;t know the anwser.

Wider tires increase the performance of your car because they improve grip leading less wheel spin on a hard launch and thus a quicker time and acceleration.
I'm not really sure what you mean though whn you say you're installing the subs where the T-tops are installed. DO you mean you're installing the subs upside down on the roof????? I'm confused. BTW I got TWO 15" subs in my car and they didn't affect the performance noticeably at all.

I've read that for each 100lbs of weight you take off your car, you gain 0.1seconds in the 1/4 mile, so if your box weighs around 100lbs thats only slowing you 0.1 in the 1/4. Hardly worth getting new tires for that now is it.

Come on man... your killing me. In the rear of the car they got the slots to put your t-tops in when they are OFF. ITs all under the hatch. You know what i mean, you got the '93.

hey thanks for the idea, i was thinking the same thing..however this kid built the box to coincide with his 94 firebird..(sold it) so he has all sorts of angles in the box that are directed at the right angle towards that hatch back glass to have the base bounce up to the front.
Though i doubt it really makes too much of a difference, i dunno, ill probably use the box for a little while to get a good listen to it, then ill take the 2 15 inch subs outta the box and finagle a way to put them in the side comparts...if i cant tell the difference ill chuck the box

as for 100 pounds takin .1 of a second off perfomance wise, if thats true im def. not spendin the money for wider tires

had he said the boot of the car i would have understood. I don't have t-tops so I thought maybe cars with t-tops had an extra slot or something.

If you wanna check out how i got my subs set up just go to my website, theres a link for it in my signature under the pics. I got the two 15' subs back, each has its own box coz thats the only way they would fit. Theres a convertible camaro around my neighbourhood though that has the subs installed in place of the back seat. I guess you could do that if you wanted but it would sacrifice a lot of bass. Best way as far as I know for camaros is to install it the way I did unless you got $$$$ to burn on a custom install. good luck.

I checked out your setup..basically thats the way mine is going to be, but with one box not two cause cause my hatch will allow it
the extra weight didnt bother your car much at all huh?? thats a real plus
