Ok, prom is coming up in about a month or so, and I need to get crackin on an outfit before they are all reserved and I'm left SOL. My question to you all is, what should I go with? I was thinking something along the lines of an all black suit, with maybe a deep, deep blue or black undershirt and a white or silver silk tie. Does anyone have any creative or unique ideas? I know this is a weird topic, but I figured I might as well get some ideas somehow.

You should wear a white tux with dark tinted Raybans.
Attach some gold Wings to this.

for my prom, ( 2 years ago) I went with a white tux, black shoes, and a black tie & it stood out, it looked good, I figure, white but that is my opinion, but if you get something on it, it shows up

I MIGHT be able to get hold of pics of my old formal suit, basically black suit, the whole collarless shirt style suit jacket but with largish cuffs and collar on the shirt folding out over it.

Due to an abundance of g/f's in high school 20 years ago (oh my gawd!!) I went to many proms.
Basic black always worked well for me, as its understated and elegant. Adding too much colour makes you like the hired help.
However, the last one I went to, I went in an all white tux. Utterly unique at the prom and just tacky enough to be interesting.

In all seriousness, my choice would be black suit pants with open collar shirt, no tie, untucked and suit jacket over the top. Add expensive watch (eg. Tag Huer) on one wrist, nice silver bracelet on the other and some black Italian leather shoes.

Well I plan on going to my prom in a pair of dickies pants, kodiak steel toes, a bud light hat, Kevin Harvick nascar shirt and a plaid fleece jacket....O and my Smirnoff Vodka bow tie that I got off a 40oz'r :iceslolan
But.... My current Formal suit that I wear to school formals, funerals and weddings is a black suit jacket, black pants, some "dress shoes" (steel toed black leather shoe's just incase any of the guys want to go "Dance" in the parking lot) and I have a really nice white shirt with a nifty lookin collar that you arent supposed to wear a tye with...its actually very sharp.

Surprisingly, I know a guy who could make me one of those...
I like the ones Oz and Slave have thrown out there; open collar sounds good,

Now, when I go out, I use my single breasted (tan/light brown sorta colour, sounds shit, looks great) suit, my white close fitting shirt, colour of shirt open over jacket, and OZ is right, good watch, and well polished shoes.
lol, either that or full RAAF ceremonial uniform (WANKER!)

Yeah, dont wear ANYTHING but black for a formal affair unless you can afford a coloured suit that is worth wearing. ie - tailored deep teal country road silk and kashmir (I love my suit.)

hey man here's what i did
instead of getting the shirt with a tie, i got a Mandarin shirt...this shirt is slick and formal and instead of a tie there's a black button at the collar......points on the smoothness factor....got the vest(was in black) instead of the commerbund (sp) black pants and jacket, and the square-toed shoes...quite sharp...and remember...GET SUSPENDERS!!!!!! because pants don't hold themselves up
Mr. Tux was my savior :p
PM me if you want to see what i'm talking about

Suspenders are so 1970's and neo nazi.
If your pants FIT properly they WILL stay up. But what you want is a good italian leather belt. And yes we all know they NEED to match ur fucking shoes
