I would like to put an 18g or a 20g on a gsx, I know what i have to do to get it on and the other parts but how soon am i sure to buy a new engine? Got a bud who says its a sure thing that the engine will blow but if i mess a little with the internals i dont think it will to much of a problem. Any suggestions or commments are welcome. I would like to know what I would need to do to keep the engine running.

Depending on the condition of the vehicle, you should be fine on stock internals for both. Just take care of it. But if you're truly worried about it replace the pistons and rods. eagle rods and JE pistons are good. Just keep an eye on your fuel system and don't run insane boost and you'll be fine....

A 20g won't 'blow' any engine internals if they are in decent operating condition. A built lower end would include pistons and rods. A stock 7 bolt will do fine to 400whp which a 20g will only achieve with lots and lots of other work. By that time you'd already have a built lower end.

Yes, 18g I do not like, and the 20g is a small turbo. Spools quick though. Either one will be fine with stock internals to 25 psi (race gas). The important thing is tuning (AFC, DSMlink, pocketlogger, etc etc) and fuel supply.
I wouldnt recomend JE pistons though, too many people have had bad experiences with them. Ross and Wiesco are the favorites. Eagle rods are very good for the budget builder and do well up to about 650 whp.

there are a lot of other 'supporting' mods that have to be looked into like proper fuel tuning and a good datalogger setup. also all the usuals like intercooler and pipes and exhaust, if you don't already have it...
