Question about new helmets being required at tracks

I just talked to my buddy, Steve, on the phone a couple days ago. He basically told me that they are now requiring drivers that run under 14 sec. 1/4 mile e.t.'s to use Snell 2000 helmets. Is this true, cause my helmet is a Snell M90? If it is true, how much am I looking at for a new helmet cost wise? I don't want to go down to LACR or Speedway (They are both roughly 50 miles away from me), only to get kicked off the track. Any help would be appreciated, and please if anyone else lives around these tracks (Which are in California) please let me know when you plan on going to the track. Thanks :)

that's been that way for a long time...
you can use a motorcycle helmet, and you should be fine.
you can check with track officials to see what they recommend.

there's no need for a "fireproof" helmet if you're not wearing a racing suit, so keep that in mind

Now that is stupid. Without the Nomex suite the point kind of moot.

i thought that under a 14 you always had to use one of the newest helmets...

but i agree... fireproof helmet and no suit... that's just pointless
