This kit is just so awesome, can't put it down!
Ok so it doesn't have the part fit of Tamiya, but there is something about building these kits with a detailed refernce source near by, you find everything is there in miniture!

The build is pretty much straight out the box, but using the most out of my airbrush for this one, and the fact I can spray in the office at home as no one can moan at me!

Anyway, engine well along now. True heat resistant crackle paint used for all the red parts such as the cam covers and induction manifolds.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/2442IMG_0562-med.jpg

The Turbos and piping took a bit of effort to sit right, but I must admit most of the tabs were in the right place. Best to use a glue which allows some adjustment whilst fitting these parts, I had to turn the outer turbo sections round to the right posistion and the piping had to be prized apart to allow the waste gate piping to slot in from above.
All the heat staining was done through the airbrush using a mix of Tamiya Titanium Gold followed by Humbrol Steel Metaliser which was polished up.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/2442IMG_0564-med.jpg

The body here is primer. Note the inner section of the intakes need to be fitted and filled before painting otherwise the two sections will show.
Not too much primer on the body, don't want to fill all the vents with thick primer! Fujimi captured the body shape perfectly!

Wow! Good job on the engine and heat staining the exhaust. Body will be red right?
Is that the oil filter on the back? Nice.
I have a Porsche 356 Enthusist kit and it even came with pistons attached to a crankshaft...did this kit have the same?
Keep it up :)

Yeah, two coats of Tamiya Italian Red have been sprayed on.

No pistons in this kit, the engine is very narrow and would be a tight fit!

I managed to pick up some photoetch for this kit too! Wipers, Ferrari badges, seat belts etc!

Final coats on the body. Italian Red is very orange. Tamiya don't do a better Ferrari tint in a red do they?

Thanks mate!

I had some Ferrari red mixed a few years back and sprayed my first 288 GTO body in that, it looks more pinky than Tamiya's Italian Red.
I'll post a pick of the two kits side by side so you can see.
Maybe spraying over a grey primer was a bad move, even if it was very light grey!
I'm sticking with it though, not bad enough to worry!

Veyron, I have spares on this kit if you need anything!

Yeah, I can't call the Enzo ugly, but it's no 288. The F360, also isn't really ugly, but coming after the F355 (sigh!), it's a shamefull step backwards. The F50, on the other hand- beaten with an ugly stick doesn't cut it. This looks like a car that's been run into the ugly tree!

The Tamiya Enzo kit by itself justifies building the car, regardless of what the car looks like. A kit like that would make me excited to build an AMC Gremlin. Gonna have to start my Enzo soon. Maybe after finishing the F50 on my bench. :sly:

Anyways, keep those updates coming!

How are you finding the F50? My fiancee's brother is doing that kit right now and it looks very chunky! Mold lines in strange places too!
It ain't no Enzo in the molding department!

I have Tamiya's 1/12 F50. They got it right in that scale for sure! Looks better with the roof on though!

True, but it's not too shabby, either. Fit is typical Tamiya, and the engine builds up beautifully- this is the real esthetic point of this car! I can agree with mold lines in strange places, but I guess it's a function of recreating the strangely shaped aerodynamics. My big concern is about painting the 10 or so body components- as I'm priming, painting, and possibly clear coating them all individually, I'm hoping the paint buildup on joining parts won't be a problem (Monsterous pain in the @ss, but I guess I'll get to look forward to this on the Enzo, as well!). I'm usually addicted to acrylics, but for this I'm using nothing but laquer, just to keep the paint thin. Wouldn't give much for the CF decals in the kit- haven't tried applying them, I just don't like how they look. I'm using an SMS sheet instead. Carbon-nylon-kevlar-teflon-cotton-something composite (black with gold dots, not black with grey stripes). Looks terrific in the cockpit. I'm terribly curious to know if the CF decals in the new Enzo kit are decent.

No, definately not an Enzo in the molding department (but then, what else is?), although some components, like engine and suspension, are similar. I'll be generous, and call it an Enzo-lite.

I'll post pics (just as soon as I get a camera...!)

For those wanting regular updates, here is the front suspension.

The shocks were hand built using springs I managed to pick up from my model shop, and aluminium tubing in various diameters. These sit on the Fujimi bases and shock mounts.
The battery was brightened up using spare decals.
The hub rotates in the disc, a nice touch, just short of the whole disc rotating!

Yeah, I plan to spray the whole rim using a chrome spray, then darken the spokes with an aluminium paint, giving a 3-piece rim look. This should go well with the chrome centre caps.
I want to stick with the Fujimi rims!

Well, actually the filler caps were a bad mistake, I recognized, when the model was finished. On the other hand, it doesn´t look too bad, so left I it like that. You are doing marvelous work on that kit. Love that front, sadly you´re not gonna see much of it when finished, since the spare tire covers most of it. I plan on building that same ferrari in 1/16 scale, hope the rims match, as they didn´t on my 1/16 F40.
Keep up the good work. Do you happen to know, if some manufacturers produce spare 1/16 scale rims?

Latest progress is regarding chassis, and major problem!
The chassis is twisted, on both the kits I have!
You can see how in the pic the front is sitting flat, but by the time I get to the rear it's all gone a bit Pete Tong!
I planned to submerge it in boiling water with weight placed in the right places to straighten it out, unless anyone else has a better idea?
Other progress, wheels have been bleached, ready for spraying!

That's what I'd use. And patience. Let your missis hold it while you twist the chassis. No need to tell you to be careful, of course, especially concidering the rarity of the kit.

With the chassis I'd say it's not necessary to straighten it anyway because it should straighten its self out once you attach more parts to it, if you hold them in the correct position as the glue sets.

This one is the 1/24th. Don't fancy 1/16th, I'd never build anything else in that scale!

I'm curious why you don't care for 1/16 scale. Is it awkward?

I feel 1/24 is too small for the time/money invested, and 1/12 too big- so I thought 1/16 might be perfect!

Contemplating the purchase of a 1/16 kit, so please advise!

Fabulous work, BTW, hope the chassis warping is able to be resolved!

I have to disagree.. I think 1/24 is perfect for something do-it-yourself.. once a model gets too big it loses its "cuteness"

I only buy pre-built models in 1/43 and build 1/24.

There is a shortage of 1/16th kits, that's why I avoid!

1/24 is the scale for plastic building, 1/43rd for white metal and resin, no quarter!
Deviating from these scales will mean odd balls!
I mean, AMT and 1/25 scale! What was all that about!

1/12 is quickly becoming THE size for super detail, but takes up some shelf space!!!

Personally I like the 1/16 scale models. Especially the Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary I built looks just too great with those doors open. The only difference between 1/24 kits and the 1/16 scale equivalents from Fujimi is that those have openable doors. Rest is exactly the same as the 1/24 scale ones. On the other hand, in my experience those 1/16 kits have a bit a fitting problem.

What do you all think about 1/8 scale like Pocher. Those look great. Lots of detail. Love them.

Progress has been slow but steady!
Update time!

The chassis was straightened successfully using a hairdryer and twisting! Glueing the engine in place helps, but I'd still want it close before trying!
Engine is in place and fuel tanks on. Watch the link hose at the front, lots to clear and fiddly to fit.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/2442IMG_0728-med.jpg

Rear suspension components: Discs and hubs sprayed with Humbrol metaliser aluminium. All ready to go on as we speak...
The hubs rotate in the discs. make sure that area stays free of glue!

It's how Fujimi make it! I think most if not all the Enthusiast kits wheels fit this way. You screw them on with tiny screws!

Guiddy
04-06-2004, 04:52 AM
Here are the suspension components in place.
Watch the fitment here, this will dictate how the rear wheels sit.

Glue on the end of the driveshafts should be slow setting, only allow the drive shaft to enter into the gearbox enough for it to give the right camber on the wheels.
Make sure you use super glue on the suspension arms, not strong mounting points here!

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/2442IMG_0738-med.jpg

Intercoolers in place. This wasn't easy!!! Much patience needed! the support bars for the engine subframe will lift when the cockpit is put in place!
