Turbo'ing a VH45DE;

Howdee, now start my new campaign in this message board, with Hello all, and I love to modify nissans. To start the ball rolling I have as you can see a S12 Silvia, and as you could guess from my name I also own A VH45DE, now this out of a Q45 92', and I'd like to put some turbos onto it for 15 - 20psi, so about 700hp - 850hp comes out the other end and if I choose to go faster just in case I'd like to see what you views are on the NOS modifcations. As for the gearbox(well crashbox), it's a hollanger 6 speed(I Don't have it yet, Engine first.) and next is the rear end, which is the tall order, I to customise the rear end to cope with the horsepower and at the same time be road legal, so it's got 17" x 10" simmons OM rims with 712 kumho rubber (275/35 ZR17) at the back, on the front 17" x 8" simmons OM rims, with 712 (235/45 ZR17), brakes are 15.5" Disks(DISCs) upfront with 13.5 Disks(DISCs) at the back, the Capilares are to desided soon so anyhelp with what you think will be best. If you have any ideas as to what you think about the Engine even different engines that are available, as not all engines are available in the Region that I call Home.:alien: :cool:

one day there will be a 98 R390 in my garage, not the radio controled one either, I already own that, along with a Primera and 1980 280zx and 97 300zx GT race car.

Im building a GT40 and have bought a VH45de the engine looks great but i think the engineers were having a mind lapce with the inlet manafold. What manafolds are you using ?? I was looking at using a Autotronics computer and a couple of VF22 or IHI PE 1818 and a couple of intercoolers from a Pulsar GTiR I was looking at either a porsche G50/50 or a Audi 016 with a holinger sequencial gear set.

A GT40 sweet, good choice......

as for my Turbo's, well they where STi 22B turbo's (IHI), well I kinda dumped them after 2 runs with on blowing @ 20psi, then failing to work after that, so I went got some Vortech Superchargers, now with 29psi, and the chargers only at half pace, and the 798hp @ the fly wheel I think I can rest for a bit..........

Manifolds........
So as you can tell I had to really build my own up, but that's only because there is nooooooo, forced induction manifolds for VH45DE, however there are some for the VH41DE, and I basically copied them over to the larger engine, although I think it'll fit, but I haven't tried it.....

personally G50/50 is better, enough said!!!!!!!

Holinger, hey you can do no wrong, hey I using it, but it not in my car yet........

Look for some front mounted intercoolers(Small one ie, MR2 or Supra), and mount them directly inline with intakes, you will get better cooling that way, but you already know that, even try for some R390 ones(NO JOKE, give it a go, you never know)...........

If you set the boost to about 15psi you will have about 550 hp, if you do the complete engine, and that will give you peak touque @ 3,000 - 3,500 rpm, which is very driveable around town.

where did you find the manafold for the VH41de do you know if you can get different cams for a VH45de have you played around with variable cam sockets I was hoping to retard the exaust by up to 10 degrees I sent an email to ed pink in the US but they were prity unhelpfull they only did stuff with the IRL engines.

Manifolds for the VH41DE, that are available, come from New Zealand, because there is a guy who turbo's them, he makes everything up for them, mounts and soforth.......


Last I heard, he was in christchurch moving north:confused: ...........



Well as with everything for this engine it seems like custom is the only way to go, your best bet is to try and find a engine tuner or rebuilder that can make up exactly what you want...

it sucks that no one makes, parts for this under rated engine, as there is about 3 turbo kit available for the VH41DE, but not the VH45DE....

another thing it's a every forgiving engine..

Have you measured the engine bay the VH45de is a very wide engine 26" tappet cover to tapet cover they are about 4 inches wider than a ford cleavland. If your thinking about a Jap V8 the Lexus motor would be easer to fit and you can get around 450 Hp Naturally asterated.

If you can get it in it would be a great car. The other engine I would look at is a RB25 Head on a RB 30 bottom end you can use comodore or Australian Skyline engine mounts and every thing else prity much bolds up.

Thats my thoughts though. The VH45 is a great engine if you can get it in but I doubt it will without serious boddy

yo nah the nissan v8 should fit silvias have HUGE engine bays and i like the idea of nissan in nissan , as for rb30 its just not the same my brother has got a rb26 in his onevia it goes hard i want something a bit diff to my brother so im either going the v8 or putting a 300zx engine in should go hard with either 1

What manual tranny bolts up to the VH45DE and if you have to use an adapter plate where can you get it at? PLEASE tell!

Nissan did not bring out a manual box for the Vh45DE it was a crap 4 speed auto. you will have to modafy a bellhousing eather way it will take alot of money to put a manual on it. the new 2004 Infiniti comes out with a new v8. it looks the same as the old and same Dimensions but it comes with an increase of 40hp dew to Internal upgrads. It is the VK45DE and it did not come out with a manual. it came out with a new 6 speed sequental shift auto. and if you are getting a Vh45DE get one that was made in 1994. It is worth it.

all of the VH45DE up to 1995 run 300hp nissan has a habit of underrating some of there engiens. plus thay stoped puting variable valve timing and sodium filled valves in the 1995 model. the 90 model is to old too many problems with old age. the 94 model has all the same stuff and it is the latest model befor the pollution control restrictions Which brought the power down to 278hp.
