Hi all, Does anyone know how to get the front door panels off, and what speakers size is in there. I have the Monsoon system. I think they are 5 1/4 but want to make sure. Thanks

If it's the same as the older ones (99+), I haven't taken mine apart, but I've already read on other posts that the front door speakers are 4X6. Sounds cheesy, (mmm, these cheese puffs I'm eating are good) but that's what they did. I noticed there is no base from the door speakers. I'll be changing them soon too.

take the reflector cover off , theres a screw. in the handle theres a screw , under the door lock/window controll theres a screw , pull from the bottom till it comes off then lift up. 4X6 i believe. But will fit all kinds.

I put in Clarions 4x6 mid and 180' tweet sheet speakers , they work great , amplified the original tweets with a 180 watt sherwood amp , that worked good too.

Are you using the stock stereo? I've noticed that the radio sucks. When I had my Dodge Stratus, the radio came in on that as good as my Pioneer super tuner 3. This GM radio sucks. I loose my favorite radio station just going about 20 miles. Of course the station I listen to isn't very strong. If I put one in this car, I'm going to have to buy a CD player. Can I hook up another amp to what I have? These new cars have the amp and speakers set up with two way out of the amp and into the speakers. When I look for new speakers, they only have one input. If I ust the Monsoon amp, I'll have to install seperate tweeters for the back. What did you do for the rear speakers? I was wanting to hook up my amp and 12".
BTW, the CD player and tape player sound and work fine.

I got a sony deck , the clarions in the doors , the factory tweets in the doors w/180watt amp , factory 6x9's and a 250 watt 2 channel pushing 2 10's. If you get new sterio , gotta remove the monsoon amp from line or it screws up the sound quality.

Yes. Some. If your using the stock rear 6X9's, mine have seperate inputs for the woofer/mid and the tweeter. Eventhough they are both in the same assembly, do you just Y the connection into one amp output? My Stratus had the high end stereo and it also had two input connection on the 6X9's. If I was to replace the stock 6X9's, but still use the Monsoon, how would that work? There would be extra conectors for the tweeters. But after market 6X9's have one input. Maybe I'll just go to the local stereo store here to find out.

I had 3 amps hot wired on the factory deck , sounded like crap when i Y'ed off the 6X9 low ohm wire input i failed to realize that the 6X9's had a lil wee amplifier and it messed with setting up the amps proper like. Some tunes it would shake and flex my roof and others were to hard to get sounden good.

Thanks again for the help earlier, I had one more question, I have the Monsoon system in the car now, I am replacing the factory radio and speakers. From what I understand I need a module (small black box) in addition to the normal wiring kit to replace the factory radio, because the radio does some of the functions like door chime, etc... Is that true?

And from reading your post, it looks like the Monsoon system has an inline amp, where is that? I have a Rockford 4 channel amp to put in and I don't want the other one in the way. Thanks.

Open your trunk , look to your left near the roll bar for the trunk , behind the trunk liner above the wheel well arch is a thin peice of painted metal , the little amp should be clipped on that , it doesnt look like a conventional amp its black with a blue clip on it. Youll find it , keep lookin.
As for the theft loc , when you decide to replace your sterio , make sure your door lock settings are what you like (use owners manual for instructions) by pressing 1 and 4 , follow the instructions for the amount of chimes and what they mean and remember to unlock the pass lock so you can sell the factory sterio and remember to include the code for it so the person who buys it can use the theft lock. If you dont got the code , you can attain it free at the dealership. example of theft loc code - 0204 or simply 204 ,another example- 2101 is 2101 you understand?

What you have to do is Y it off before the speaker line hits the amp for the 6X9 , and you have to pick the lower OHM wire to y off at or youll be amplifying a High OHM signal and wont get good Bass.

Now, your saying Y off. My original thought was to Y the positive of the bass/mid & tweet together, and the same with the neg.(Y together) Are you saying that I don't even use the wires that go to the tweeter part? And that was before the amp. Dang, it's all confusing with this new stuff. Just get rid of the stock and replace it all. lol. If I stay with the Monsoon for now, is there something I can do about the radio reception. The CD and tape sound just fine.

Do your original idea , but do it before the amp or youll be amplifying and already amplified signal and get distorted bass. Like if you were to get a new deck , a pro installer will remove the lil amp just for the sterio output , its louder and clearer. Does your monsoon have a RCA plug built in for subs and input for aux.?

I was wondering the same thing. I haven't checked yet. That would be nice.
