88 Cherokee clutch problems

Have replaced the disc, plate, master cylinder, made a repair to the pedal bar (there was a crack in the steel shaft)----we are still having problems getting it to shift smoothly...grinding when shifting into 2nd, all other gears not...husband says feels like clutch is not disengaging----any suggestions would be appreciated!
