I think you are refering to what some people call power braking. I also assume, since you are asking this question, that you have an automatic.
I guess if you are buring out just for the sake of doing it, use the e-brake method.
From a complete stop pull the e-brake handle hard, keep the button pressed down with your thumb. hit the gas.
if you want to use the other method (mainly used for launching). put one foot on the brake and hold the gas down with the other. release the brake when you hit about 3k RPMs.
The e-brake method isn't recomended for launching because the car will usually pull forward a little. If you're at the track you'll get a red on the tree for something like that.

Or if you just want a quick smoke show to impress your little friends (like it sounds like you wanna do) put it in reverse hit the gas untill like 3k rpms then slam it in low with foot on gas all the way down. thatll impress your buddies (to my amazment the escorts got some balls)

lets put it this way. dont. but since your going to anyway. if you have an automatic, seriously dont, ive gone thru 3 transmissions, automatics are not for spinning your tires, with an escort at least. but you do have the right idea, for a rear whell drive car, hold the brakes and get on the gas, it locks the front brakes and spins the rear tires. and as far as reverse while rolling then drive, again, that will fuck your trasmission like you wont belive. and if your buddies get the idea of doing a neutral drop to spin the tires, yes it will, but I replaced me trasmission and thought that since it was brand new it could take some beating, first netral drop, blew it. so if you have an auto matic, dont do it. but if its a stick. put it in 1st, you can have the ebrake on or not, but rev it up to about 3 or 4 grand, thats the "safest" but then just slide your foot to the side off the cltuch, not back like your normally driveing, just let the clutch pop back and just relaese your foot and floor it, youll spin the tires. but my suggestino is not to do this too much, cuz transmissinos are expensive, automatic your looking at over 1500 to fix, almost 1800 actually. just manuals are easier to fix, there for cheaper, maybe only 1200 or 1300.

you can nutrual drop it which also goes through trannys, but the ebrake is prob the easiest... and get some of that wet/black tire shine stuff and spray your tire and the ground... it smokes better and allows for an easier loss of traction.
