1995 Jimmy 4.3 Vortec won't start

My 1995 Jimmy with 46,000 miles has been idling a little rough and the service engine soon light flashing on and off for about two weeks. I've had it checked and there are no codes to pull. The last time it started before it died now, it took a long time to crank and then start. I changed the inline fuel filter. That didn't seem to help. The vehicle was used a lot of different people for short errands and always parked in a parking garage. I listen for fuel pump noise, but the tank is "full" and I don't hear anything like the pump pressurizing the system. Help, I'm not sure of where to procede. Thanks in advance for your help, Glen.

You probably need a fuel pump if you can't hear it.

By the way, if that SES light turned on IT DOES have codes, you may be using the wrong scan tool. :dunno:

If it flashes, it means that a catalyst damaging condition exists. It doesn't take too long to eat of that catalytic converter if that light is flashing. I have seen it take one out in under 100 miles with the SES flashing. Hopefully you didn't do any major damage to it. :angryfire

Hope this helps.

The fuel pumps are a known problem. Mine failed 3 times in 100,000 miles. The first time the wires shorted out and melted (easy fix) next two times it just failed for no reason.
