High pitched screeching, in Engine bay

Hi everyone,

I have this high pitch squeaking sound in my engine area, cannot locate the exact position of the sound. Checked the oil and the oil is fine. Any suggestions on where else a high pitched screech will come from. Also the screech gets louder when i hit the throttle.

P.S. I was thinking maybe the water pump was doing it???

belt, water pump, Alt, bearings. Does you belt looked like it is slipping or burned?

get a 3/4in diameter rubber hose, about 3-4 feet long, hold on end to your ear, and then move the other end from one pully to the other in the engine bay, when the sound gets the loudest, youve found the problem spot. i would say that a bearing on one of the pullies is shot.

Hey my friend had a v6 camaro (96) and it made a loud sound like that too and it got louder as he got on it. When he got it fixed the mechanic said it was his a/c. His car smoked even after he "fixed it" so i don't know about the smoke.

pretty much established that its more than likely a pulley bearing, just a matter of determining which one...

Well an owl could of taken up residence under the hood and every time you crank the car he gets ticked off. But Its definitley got something to do with the belt slipping. Try taking the belt off and turning the accessories buy hand to see if you can feel any kind of a bind. also while you have the belt off crank it for a second and see if the noise goes away. If it does than you can continue to narrow it down. My A/C clutch went out on mine and the bearings made a bad grinding noise for a month before it finnaly lock up. This had the belt from time to time slipping and making a high pitched screeching. It also costed $621 to have all the A/C stuff replaced.
