Ladies and gentlemen,

We are happy to announce that our 350Z project vehicle is up to a great start, with wonderful sponsors jumping on the bandwagon to support the project.

All updates will be posted on the <a href="http://www.automotiveforums.com/350z/"; target="blank">350Z Project Website</a>, including parts installations, dynos, photographs, and track events coverage.

So far, the car has the following upgrades:

- <a href="http://www.automotiveforums.com/sponsors.cgi?http://www.stoptech.com"; target="blank">StopTech</a> 4-Wheel Big Brake Kit (14.1" rotors)
- <a href="http://www.automotiveforums.com/sponsors.cgi?http://www.xerd.com"; target="blank">XERD</a> Long-Tube Headers
- <a href="http://www.automotiveforums.com/sponsors.cgi?http://www.borla.com"; target="blank">Borla</a> True Dual Exhaust
- <a href="http://www.automotiveforums.com/sponsors.cgi?http://www.knfilters.com"; target="blank">K&N</a> Typhoon Intake
- <a href="http://www.automotiveforums.com/sponsors.cgi?http://www.z-xtreme.com"; target="blank">Z-Xtreme</a> 6-Wire Grounding Kit

Planned upgrades are as follows:

- Forced Induction (Supercharger or Twin-Turbo)
- Low compression internals
- Lightweight racing wheels and performance tires
- Race coilovers suspension
- Performance swaybars
- Twin or triple plate carbon clutch
- Lightweight flywheel
- Programmable ECU or standalone engine management system
- and other things we won't mention for now :smooch:

Our goal is to make this an ultimate track car, with around 400rwhp.

This is really SWEEEEET...but...come on...did you have to post a 350Z project right on top of the Chevy Impala forum? I'm having enough problems keeping these Chevy owners happy with their cars.

Actually very big chance. We are already doing research on this subject and adding low compression internals to the to do list slipped my mind when making the initial post as I was typing it all from memory.

well... duh
When the XERD headers went in, my plan was to keep the car naturally aspirated, but situation has changed since then. However, if we go with supercharging, these headers will work just great. When deciding on whether we will go with TT or S/C, the fact that the car has great aftermarket headers that will go to waste if the TT setup is chosen will not be weighed, as it is pretty insignificant when looking at the big picture.

It would be nice to see a twin turbo set up like the GReddy 350z.
and maybe JG Edelbrock nitrous or nitrous express intercooler kit.
With volk TE37 bronze

Currently, Power Enterprise's TT is being considered. As for wheels, Volks are unlikely - way too common :)

cool twin turbo
i have another idea for rims Veilside golt, andrew racing V,or andrew baccarat
and body kit a simple veilside version 1
this 350z is going to be real nice judging by the way progress has gone so far.
by the way is anything going to be done to the interior?

you decided on what brand of tires you want? and will it have seperate road coarse and drag tires as in like slicks for drag? oh and for wheels I'd say go with something like Stern or Rota for lightweight and less common... racing hart makes some nice light wheels as well

and if you go with a more common brand I'd say BBS, always hear good things plus aren't quite as played out as like volk, konig, motegi... just my thoughts

Actually very big chance. We are already doing research on this subject and adding low compression internals to the to do list slipped my mind when making the initial post as I was typing it all from memory.

FYI, there is a tuner in my area that has 8.5:1 pistons for the VQ35 already. They are called SGP, and are one of the more popular Z32 tuners, with some 10-second daily drivers under their belt. Now they're moving on to the Z33. I haven't heard anything bad about them at all.

Apparently people are already getting 400+ hp under stock compression(10.3:1), but you'll probably have morepeace of mind/less reliability issues to worry about if you go lower. Or there's always the potential for raising your power goal. :naughty:

Some ATI Prochargers caused damage to the engines because of poor (or absolute lack of) tuning. This is bound to happen when an N/A engine is paired with forced induction. Our project will not include a simple slap on FI - it will be tuned and managed.

To low of a Comp is bad.

What are your goals? 1/4, Track, or ?

If you go Twins, what boost level? Its 3.5 V6 right?

igor@af
03-15-2004, 02:43 PM
First and foremost goal is track. Hit me up on AIM sometime if you get a chance, I'd love to get your advice on all this.

If from what was posted 10.3:1 with the efficiency of the 80-90% from the heads, you might be able to boost 3-4lbs without any real damage. That is the beauty of having a engine management system, so you can take timing out when need be.

Tuning is an art, but you need a pretty big technological canvas to get all the colors on it to make a painting worth looking at. :iceslolan

theres a video of a blue TT 350z out and the car is sick.. i sujest going Turbo all the way, but i think a stand alone fuel managments system is kinda over kill and you really gotta know what you are doing.. My friend has a GSR that we are working on.. We installed a revhard kit.. and he desided to tune it with the AEM EMS and its just crazy.. theres so much shit to do.. i sujest tuning with something simpler.. stand alones are over kill.. Turbo will deffinatly yield the biggest results

igor@af

As far as turboing goes... our Vortech Supercharger arrived today, and the results should be just perfect.

Our goal is to make around 450-500rwhp, which will not be too difficult with the planned setup.

I am currently considering keeping the stock compression ratio of 10.3:1 for the forged internals. The desired power should be achieved at around 12 PSI.

Remember, this is going to be a track car, not a dyno queen or a drag racer.

The VE for that engine is too great for that comp ratio, and boost level. IMHO

daveshapellSVT
04-16-2004, 05:12 PM
yea 12 psi is a bit much for the cpmpression ratio.. i wouldn't think it could hold more than 8psi safely.. I think at 12 its a hand grenade pretty much.. i'd go at least slightly lower on the compression.. under 10 for sure..

daveshapellSVT
04-16-2004, 05:14 PM
i take it the vortech is a centrificle setup.. how would you adjust boost?

SkylineUSA
04-17-2004, 12:12 AM
Once the car is set up, and tuned you don't need to control the boost. Just have to use that pedal on the right with a bit of touch :)

maartenvanthek
04-18-2004, 05:26 AM
since it's going to be a track car, suspension is way more important than power, because as soon as you go over like 350 bhp, the rear wheels will spin if there isn't enough grip. supergrippy tires and a well set up suspension are things to focus on, not some louzy bhp-number that will give you half a second on a half mile straight...

igor@af
04-18-2004, 08:52 PM
As far as compression goes, we are still unsure...

Regarding this car's purpose on the track, the additional horsepower will be managed by fully adjustable shocks and a sponsorship from Yokohama :) <a href="http://www.yokohamatire.com/TireIntro.asp?TireID=60"; target="blank">A048</a>. Furthermore, a rear wing looks like an absolute necessity to keep the rear end planted.

Yes, a BAUW in very much needed for a race car.

Putnam Park was very fun.

Had an interesting incident occur after riding in a track-prepped M3 as a passenger - my car key was gone from my pocket (which stupid me, I did not zip up)... so we all searched for about 30-45 minutes inside the car and around the trail where I thought I had gone through on the way to the car before the ride...

Tom Kain (the driver, great guy!) ended up figuring out that the key may have gotten sucked into an air duct underneath the passenger seat. So we got a "magnet on a stick" and he dug it out of there!

what did your 350Z run stock? There was one at the track this past weekend and the first run i saw him get a 16.01.. then later on i saw him pull a 15.0.. he really wasn't launching bad.. his car looked very slow however.. we were all really disappointed to see it run so slow.. my guess is that it was an automatic compined with a shitty driver.. do they have traction control maybe he had that on too lol i dunno what he did but that car was slow..

04-24-2004, 11:18 AM
if it's an auto, it's not hard to run consistently fast...
you could put a monkey in there and run the same times...

it should be running low 14's stock.
