A4 97 Problem

I have Audi A4 97 automatic trans. When I changed the timming belt the car runs in high rpm and the gear didn't shift. When the rpm reach to 6000 the the gear is shifting. We changed the oil and filter for the gear and no change happens. We rechecked the timming and it was ok. Any one have idea what might the problem from.
