check your inline fuse , its a + wire that goes from the battery to the fuse box , make sure its bolted on tight , also look at the main ign fuse in there , see if the element inside the fuse housing isnt bent , if it is theres a loose connection espeacially when you hit bumps. Hope it gives you ideas

I am having the exact same problem with my 2001 Grand Am. How did you finally get it running?

I dunno all the exact details but I was told it can do all sorts of funny failures or wierd malfunctions when you got a loose power connection somewhere or even when fuse boxes get wet. When my pos cable to the fuse box was loose it would start and have spooky power failures turn the car completely off while driving it. Id check the fuses and the ignition fuse wasnt put back in straight after i checked it but still made a pos connection and looked like it was in good. I also noticed the wire to the fuse box was loose so i tightened it up. Car ran good till I one day went for a tear down some dirt roads and lost power and regained it again outta nowhere even the head lights went out. I hed to use my 4 way flashing setting on my under body lights cus they were the only thing I had hard wired to the battery. My Guages would spike up and down full tank overheat full speed full rpms when the car was off and clicking sounds all over the in the dash and the trunk would release itself on the highway too lol it was wierd as hell. I fugured out what I did wrong by backtracking all the road side fixits I did and discovered the main ignition fuse was pushed outside of the element and made a very weak connection that when the engine was really warm would get really loose and cause the guages and electrical stuff go bonkers. After that I thoroughly went over all the electrical component wiring for any damages or breaks been good so far no prob.

I had this exact same problem where my Grand Am would not start. We went through everything with a fine tooth comb. Doors wouldn't lock, couldn't pop trunk, radio wouldn't work. I called all the dealers with little luck. Here is what we found. I noticed that whenever I went through an automatic car wash all of my electrical components would act up. The doors would unlock while I was driving, the dome lock would come on while I was driving, etc. I had the problem while it was still under warranty and when I took it in to the car dealer they replaced the "body control module". Well, I had my husband locate it, and when he took off the cover (underneath the dash on the passenger side), the bcm was sitting in 2" of water. As soon as the water was gone my car started acting normal. We decided to leave the cover off the bcm to be on the safe side, but I will not take it into a car wash again. We live in Texas with torrential rainfalls in spring and fall and it doesn't affect my car, but the carwash always does. I hope this helps!

you have either a bcm going bad, or your pass-lock security module is

ok, I found a bcm gm part# 12206799 Body Multifunction Computer Connector/Module BFC MDL for $114.15 with a $22.83 shipping fee for a total of $136.98 on GMPartsDirect.com; I will have to save up but this sounds like the answer. Thanks everyone!!
