97 Ford Escort 1.9 Liter 87,000 (beige if it helps :)

Right now I'm getting 17MPG (ouch!)

Have a new 02 Sensor, a K&N Air Filter, Plugs Wires all Ford and the computer is in check (I waisted $300 at a mechanic and no increase this was last year)

I changed the Fuel Filter last summer and did a lot of dirt-road drivin and am going to change it again but that probably won't change a thing.

This really sucks and I need some help. Auto god's will you help me?

p.s. the gauge in the dashboard will no longer tell me if my tank is empty or full. What's up with that crap?

Maybe have your timing and emissions checked.
Changing your fuel filter will be a waste of time and money. You did it once, no need to do it again.

Have you checked tire pressure and alighnment?? How about possible
dragging brakes? Exactly how did you determine your only getting 17
MPG..

My car runs out of gas around 200 miles (I've tested it) it holds 12 gallons.200/16 = 16.6 round up and I get 17. Last year I had it taken into a mechanic for about $300 O2 sensor out.

With that I got about 25MPG. About 2 years ago or a little less I was getting about 34 in town.
