3000gt....whats the diffrance

Hi im looking in to buying a 94 3000gt, whats the diffrace between tht SL and the VR-4, and does either of them have a turbo

Hey man i'm new too but i can tell ya that the SL is naturally aspirated and comes 222hp stock. the vr-4 is twin turbocharged and comes 300hp stock (pre-1994) and 320hp (post 1994).

Yeah that's basically all... The VR4 is all wheel drive too, while the SL is front wheel drive.

Everything that has been said is correct. Essentially, the vr4 has twin turbos and a bunch of bells and whistles. It has Electronic controlled everything, from suspension, to active aerodynamic spoilers, to active exhaust, 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering. The SLs are NA 222hp DOHCs and FWD.
There is also the base model which you did not mention. the 91-96 was an NA DOHC 222hp engine, after 96 they "downgraded" to a (161?)hp SOHC engine.

Yeah it was 161 97 and above.... All the Stealth bases came with a 164 horse SOHC motor though.. Sorry, just posted that 'cause I was always wondering

that's funny, I always assumed that they just used the exact same setup as the SOHC stealths because the 3000gt base went SOHC when the stealths were discontinued...what accounts for the extra 3hp?

I have no idea... Torque is the same... 185 ft/lbs. Anyone have any idea?

Usually, when a car has different trims, the manufacturers will give the higher one (more stuff=more weight) a little more hp to compensate. Like my 90 accord is an ex and comes with 10hp more stock, then the dx, just to keep it competitive. But I don't think that the SOHC 3000gts differ from the stealths much, and I would have assumed the stealth lighter, as well why would the one with more hp be made before the other, I doubt they downgraded the engines to make the cars equal.... But perhaps it is just something like that, but that really makes no sense.

94+ VR4's are all 6 speeds. 91-93's are all 5 speed. 91-some92's had 18 spline. 93+ had 25 spline.
