1987-1993 verts do come with subframes.

I posted a couple months ago:

"I was going over a big speed bump in my friends droped vert that he just bought, and it scraped very very hard, I was flipping but he said there is two bars that ran down the frame so he can scrape all he wants and nothing gets hurt.

Well I finally got my Ford mustang 5.0 79-93 handbook thats more like a 5.0 bible with like 440 pages. As I was reading the 1987 section it said and I quote; "Mustang convertables are constructed with added longitudinal subframe ties and a transverse front brace to reduce stucture shimmy and cowl shake." and thats why "A typical 1987 GT convertable weighs 134 pounds more than a compareably equipped GT hatchback" which sounds a bit high to me.

well, i don't think the subframes would have much to do with the 137 pounds more then a hatchback. Convertibles are the heaveiest becuase they have to have heavy tops and all of the mechanical gear to raise and lower the top.
I am somewhat perplexed by that manual though. I don't own a convertible from those years but I know that the first thing roommended to get for those cars is subframe connectors, i have read that in every book and magazine. So i don't see how they could come with subframes. Unless what they came with was some attempt by Ford to fix the problem but not coming up with a complete or adaquate solution. Not sure.
Interesting though.

Yea it is interesting... It may have some type of subframe connector but they definetly do not have the type everyone is use to seeing in magazines.

After reading further It said only some verts came with subframe connectors and/or front tranverse subframe brace also under the dash and cowl area. The extra 137-191lbs comes from numerous braces, reinforcing plates and fasteners through out the structure. This book is extremely informative, I cant think of any question this book cant answer about fox body stangs. I didnt no that all verts where actually born as notchbacks from factory then taken to Car and Concepts in Michigan where they underwent cosmetic surgery to become roofless. Then they went back to Ford factory to be inspected and sold. After 94 ford began doing all the work themselves. Interesting stuff.

My 88 GT vert did not have any longitudinal subframe connectors. There are some skidplates under there, I think it's more than the standard Fox bodies. I bought some subframes from MAC and had them welded in. Hard to say if it helped or not, but the car seems pretty stiff for a ragtop.
