Cold Starts/Transmission 03

Automatic transmission will not shift into overdrive after cold start. Cold means under 25 degrees. Dealer suggested letting engine warm, but still won't shift until engine is close to normal operating temp which can take 5-10 minutes or longer on cold days. Fluid is fine, car has 15k, 4 cyl. Dealers suggestion doesn't sound right. Any ideas?

Many model transmissions normally have that behavior. I would bet you can't do anything about it.

This is normal. The engine must be at operating tempature to bring the ecm into open loop mode.(That is running off of the sensors.)The ecm won't allow O/D until these conditions are met.

Is there any way to save wear on the car in cold weather? All this warm-up time makes me wonder.

I just drive mine slowly until the tranny upshifts by itself. When the engine is cold, I don't take it above 2000 rpm.
