4.6 L engine reliability

I'm shopping for a 96/97 Bird with a 4.6 L engine.
What are some of the "problems" with this engine?

What I mean is for instance. The 3.8L V6 is known for head gasket failures. What are the expected trouble areas of the 4.6L ?

Intake cracking, that's hardly a "engine" problem though. You CANNOT get water into the enigne if it splits, it just makes a mess.

Aside from that, there are no "problems" with the 4.6L, none.

One of the best motors ever made. I love mine. And you will love the power

i've only heard great things about it,

in my car i would like to swap it out for a 5.4 liter or build it up and throw a supercharger on it

Would the 4.6 fit into my 93 3.8L?

Ya they put 5.0s in the 93s, but the swap would be extremely difficult.

I've logged over 155k/mi, most of them are freeway. I've never, EVER had a problem with my 4.6 that wasn't easily cured with a regular maintenance schedule (oil, water, filters, plugs/wires, etc - the basics), and never have I been "found on road dead".

That's for engines though, now when it comes to trannies, that's a different story. . . lol (rebuilt once, now on second).
