possible distributor problems

ok, my 93 usdm integra rs runs absolutely clean the first time i'm driving it in the day after it has warmed up, or after i have let it sit for a good amount of hours, but if i drive it somewhere, stop, turn it off, and comeback within anywhere between 5 min and 5 hours, there is a kind of a clicking/whirring sound when i rev to around 3000 rpm... i'm pretty sure it's the distributor that's making the sound but i could be wrong... any idea's on what it is and how to fix it?

yeah, kinda like a clicking sound... like as i rev up the clicking speeds up as well.. kinda like... tick tick tick tick *rev* tickticktickticktick... i dunno, it almost gets to a kind of whirring sound when i hit around 4500 rpm.. i'm sure it's not causing any damage.. it's just really FREAKING ANNOYING!!:banghead:

check where the sound is coming from, under the valve cover?
if so, it's probably the lifters that's making that clicking, tapping, sound. a lifter adjustment would make the sound quieter, but it'll still be there.

Lifters? Overhead cam. Could be in need of a valve lash adjustment. Is it really loud, or do you just notice it?

it's just kinda noticeable.. like wtf is that! but nothing like OMG WHATS GOING ON type thing... i'm pretty sure the sound is coming from the distributor cause when it's at idle i put my head right by it and i can hear a really light ticking sound
