:screwy: I KNOW EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT BUT WHY WOULD WANT 20 OR 22 INCH TIRES. IF YOU'RE GOING TO DRIVE THIS JEEP ON THE ROAD, YOU'LL BE BACK LATER ON SAYING ( I'M NOT GETTING ANY GASMILEAGE) THINK OF THE WEIGHT YOU ARE ADDING. IF YOU WANT TO START FIXING MANY TROUBLES - GO FOR IT, & GOOD LUCK DALE

Is this the type of environment we want to foster here.
We represent 4x4 loving jeep people on this forum. This guys has a different take on what looks good with a jeep. There should be no problem with that.
If he wants to make a street ride out of his jeep that is his business. Don't berate him. If you can't say anything nice.... Keep quiet.
He came here for help - Not condemnation.
You make me ashamed.

Besides all the drivetrain problems he'd be creating, he would be making a mockery of Jeep. Jeeps are anywhere anytime anyweather offroading kings, not blinged out Jokemobiles. Keep Chrome off of Jeeps and keep Jeeps on the offroad. Ideas like this make me and plenty of other Jeepsters sick.
May I once again elaborate, allbeit that your ashamed?
Dubs on Jeeps = Dumb F**king Idea!

On Feb 14, 2004 you spoke of having a "moral obligation" to respect those who respect you. This fellow has done nothing to provoke you.
He does have a "funny" idea about what will look good on a Jeep; but he respected you and me enough to ask for your help and advice.
---
As for Jeep being a "Go Any where Any Time" vehicle... How do you explain all those 2 wheel drives out there?
---
As for "Go buy an Escalade". As a college student you should well know, not everyone can afford a ride that's so expensive. Besides, you called Cadillac a "Joke" on the March the 21st.
---
You also ruminated on College, and the difficulties on choosing a career on the 14th of this Feb. The responses you received were caring, commiseration. Not someone telling you to suck it up or grow up and get on with it. That is because car people are supposed to be a good group of people.
---
You have made many good posts in the past. You like to help people in the forums. I am just surprised that you would try to alienate someone and give them a bad feeling about automotiveforums.com and, more importantly, give them a bad feeling about those of us who like jeeps for their off-road character. I don’t understand it either. But his actions won’t hurt either of us, and he’s likely to do it anyway.

20" on Jeeps is the same to me as a Ricer to a Honda Fan.
I do like to help people but this question is beyond stupid to me and I sure as hell don't fell obligated to help answer a question like this. But, Im not gonna stay quiet with Jeeps, I do stay quiet in the Honda/Acura forum because theres no helping it. However, I as a Jeep fan do not wanna see a Blinged out Jeep.
-
2wd Jeeps- Ive done plenty of offroading without the aid of 4x4, I only need it at certain times. 2wd works surprisingly well with Jeeps.
-
Would you like to see Jeeps turned in Blinged out SUV's like Escallades?
-
Why did you check other posts Ive made?

I think you would need some sort of lift to run 20 inch rims with a good amount of rubber around them. As far as the drivetrain wear goes, I think the only thing that would really give you issues would be brakes wearing out sooner than normal. Go for it! Do as you please. Build for yourself, no one else matters.

lmao, you guys are too halarious!! yes you guys do have a point, 20s on a jeep would look absolutely stupid and jeeps arent supposed to be "pavement princesses". but he does have his own opinion and if he wants to do that its alright, as for the results......well......no comment.

You didn't get an answer... I signed up becasue i saw the thread... I am looking for 20's also, and SOME of these people are just arrogant. I Have a list of off-road modifications as long as Tommy Lee's ding-dong, but want to put some 33" rubbers on a set of 20's for my every-day driving. To each his own, i happen to agree with wanting 20's... i also happen to be sitting about 8" higher than stock with tires and Rubicon Express 4.5" lift. If you have nothing else to do than bash, just don't say anything!

I don't think 20's on a Cherokee would look that good. the Cherokee and the Wrangler are supposed to be off-roading kings. The only Jeep I would ever put 20's on is a Grand Cherokee. I am currently looking for 20's for my 95' Grand, and the wheels and tires come out to about $1500 (with s/h). But hey, your car, your money, and the hell to everybody else. Do what you want. But you wont be doing any off-roading on those wheels.

As a Street Jeeper I'd be more than happy to help you out.
IMHO, I dont think 20's a such a good idea. Bear in mind the weight factor, poor gas mileage, and uncomfortable ride. I suggest that the highest you go would be 17" or 18", with a nice size tire to fill the wheel well.
If your set on getting 20's, then I suggest a small lift to make it look reasonable.
Here is a picture of an XJ with 20" Moda R-7. The XJ has a 3" lift as well:

Not trying to bash you here, but Im curious as to why you have an off-road oriented "brush guard" front end attachment if you have what you call a "street jeep" ??? If it were a "street jeep", wouldnt you want to remove that for all the weight and drag savings it would yeild, not to mention the increased performance?

Good point.
Thing is, though, that i have looked over his jeep before, and he has done mosty performance enhancing work to it. He has a page on cardomain.com that is well put together, and tastefully done. Like most of the others on here, im not personally into the "street jeep" niche, but anyone who takes a vehicle and puts their time, effort, money, and thought into it simply to make it perform better in whichever environment appeals to the owner, earns my respect. Many people say Jeeps werent meant to be pavement pounders, and are intended for big tires and big lifts... Not entirely true. If that were the case, why did i have to completely replace my suspension with custom and aftermarket pieces? Why am I currently building front and rear dana 60 1 ton axles? For the exact reason that jeep did NOT intend for me to use it in this manner. What you do with your jeep is your preference, not the factory's. If youre building a jeep to perform on the street, then more power to you. The only mantra I hope the street jeeper follows is "function over form". Sure I can practically drive over a stock cherokee in mine, but I bet the blue/white XJ above would smoke mine at the track, and through the slalom. Cool with me. :icon16:

To answer your question... simply becuase I like the look too much to take it off for now. As soon as I have the Avenger S/C, I'll eventually take off the brush guard to save weight. For now, I'm fairly content with the performance with the brush guard on. I just dont see much improvement even if I do take it off. I don't street race, nor do I take my XJ to the track (that will change with the Avenger S/C) so the look of the brush guard on is more appealing.
I've taken into account soo many off-roader and wheelers advice to build a tasteful street jeep... I'm sure its evident by all the quality brand names I've used. So far I've recieved more compliments that negative so to each their own
